Never met anyone from down under, but even as a young child I always wanted to go to Australia and when I became an adult, it seemed to become a fad and everyone I talked to wanted to go there!
Perhaps the influx of Crocodile Dundee movies? I love the accent and the animals native to that land. Kangaroos!
It seems as though Australians have a more laid back type of personality, and are not in as big of a hurry as we Americans.
I also once had a dream that I had trained a young Roo to keep ice and beer in it's pouch and when ever I wanted one I would call it to hop over and bring me a brew(smile)!
I know a country cannot have a personality, its just a feeling I get from listening to Aussie's talk in movies and on TV, so I can't really base this on any fact! |

Australians, by far, have a better attitude.
They are friendly, helpful & very laid back whereas Americans are a much more suspiscious breed that prefer to keep themselves to themselves.
For example, on holidays in both countries I found Australians smile at people & are not afraid to talk to strangers. Americans, on the other hand, try not to make eye contact & are always in too much of a hurry. |

How can an Aussie like me answer any other way than of course always - AUSTRALIANS - always and forever. In any case Australians are fewer than Americans so we could be considered more precious......... :-) |

No just kidding
You can't just generalize a whole nation |

Australians are better than Americans. They are friendlier and more intelligent. An American atlas consists of the USA and nothing but ocean.
Can't judge whole countries, eh? Well I've been to both places, so you just watch me judge! |

Aussie of course, but if you come here you will need to try and understand our sense of humour, which can confuse people, they don't know if we are serious or not |

everyone has a different personality no matter where they are from. i feel that it is not right to compare personalities based on where someone is from. |

Generalizing an entire nation is wrong. :( |

But Why??

Hey Im from Australia and Ive met extremely likeable characters from the U.S. and here, people are people all over the world. |

I pity the fool!

Personality towards what exactly? sex? religion? politics? love? hate? drug use? self-destructive behavior? arrorgance? homosexuality? kids? education? gambling? hookers? sports? the weather? exercise? masterbation?
you need to be more specific.... |

I've met hundreds of people from both. Thats really ambiguous asking a question like that. How can you know???
There are people from every country who are nice/not nice. |

Well Americans can talk and describe things really well and socialize very well and Aussies have a humorous laid back way of communicating however we are not good at showing true feelings. and Americans can be overwhelming with all there talking they tend to think they are better. but I have never met a nasty American yet... still I think Aussies are closer to reality and Americans live in the future. |

I love America that's were I've been my whole life. I would definitely like to go to Australia one day. I did a report on it in third or fourth grade and I wanted to go ever since.
To jesus: It's not modern Americans and Australians' fault what there ancestors did. Also, not all of them just have European ancestors. Ever hear what they tried to do for the free African Americans? They bought land (Liberia) to send them out of America. However it came a little too late because they didn't know Africa as a home they knew America as home. Now that's history class. |

It is really up to the individual to decide that. I personally do not like many australians (me being one lol). Some of them I find cold, and a bit fake.
However I have met some pretty nasty americans.
It's really up to you to decide. I've ran away from all that and now live in new zealand. 100 years behind everything. Wouldn't have it any other way! |

What a waste of space.
I did not know that a nation had a personality. It can't, it isn't a person. |

I'm Australian. Most foreigners like Australians, except Indians, they don't like us. Apparently we're very laid back and easy-going, which I think is true to a large extent.
There are many people who don't like Americans. I think it has more to do with politics though, not personalities.
The difference isn't huge to me, America does have a serious mental disorder though, but that's probably because people over there have more to worry about. Australians are catching up with that.
Personality-wise, I don't think one is more appealing than the other. |
