I live in Brisbane (Australia) and i am just curious why majority of daytime tv is American. As is prime time tv. The only Australian shows seem to be news! I'm not complaining- because some majority American tv is entertaining. But would like to see some Aussie tv every once in a while!!
Oh and i dont just sit around all day watching TV, but when i do this is what i notice.
What does anyone else think? Additional Details SORRY THIS ISNT IN THE RIGHT SECTION :)
There's actually quite a bit of Australian programming around, but it's nearly all on the ABC and most of the rest on there is British. Do yourself a favour and check it out - there are some brilliant shows that hardly anyone knows about.

I liked it when Beauty and The Beast was on.
Otherwise Australia should produce some daytime shows but I'm afraid they wouldn't be too interesting. We have less crazy people than America has :)

I watch very little TV (I live in Australia), but I've heard that the increase in American TV shows being shown on Australian TV is largely due to the free trade agreement between Aust & USA that was implemented not long ago, when little Johnny Howard was still in power.
Apparently Australian content on TV & Radio is going to diminish by a certain percent (by quite a lot) & an increase in American content will replace the lost Australian content. (I'm not Anti American or anything but I think this kinda sux)

The reason why there is alot of American TV shows on Australian TV is really very simple. There are alot of pre-made American TV shows that are very cheap to buy. Making TV locally costs more money, and so most of the stations only do the bare minimum necessary (there are requirements for them to retain their broadcasting licences).
As always, the reason for everything, is money.
