I was there last year:
The YHAs are always good - you're ensured to get a good quality as they're all pretty uniform. The location of the YHAs in Sydney are reasonable. However, they're not the cheapest.
Wake Up! Also had a good reputation, being young and fresh. Again not the cheapest!
On my longer stint I stayed in the suburb of Newtown, at Abbey on the King. No complaints there, but it isn't central enough for a two week visit. Cost was low though and living conditions good.
*** My personal suggestion would be Big Hostel, 212 Elizabeth St, Surry Hills. It's central to most things, good standard of living, friendly and slightly cheaper than the larger chains. My mum even visited and stayed with me there ... and even she was impressed! Generally it caters for everyone - whether you want to party or tour! *** |

Maybe think about what you want to do whilst you're there first. Then at least you can narrow it down to an area that most suits the stuff you wanna do. |

In a hospital donating a kidney. You might have to stay in for two weeks if there are complications and you'll actually MAKE money! |

The YHA Sydney is a good and cheapest option, but most of the time it is fully booked. So, please make a booking well ahead. Having said that, the YHA Sydney is expensive compared to other YHA in Australia, but that is the cheapest best-value option you can get there
Sydney is an expensive city. I paid 65 bucks for lousy hotel before. |

Try www.yha.com.au
Depends on what sort of places you're looking for. |

I like the Sydney Harbour Marriot its on circular quay, you can see/walk to the Opera house, harbour bridge. You can see the harbour from most of the rooms (I think). It costs between 150 and 300 a night. I have also heard that the IBIS is nice and not nearly as expensive (on the other side of the harbour from the marriot) |

YHAs (Youth Hostels Australia). Plenty of them in Sydney and around Australia.
Cheap, clean, friendly staff and visitors. |

YHA Railway Square is really nice. I think it is about $27 a night, and if you want you can stay in a refurbished railway carriage. Its right above a square with shops and pubs (and a supermarket has just opened). Its got a swimming pool and its literally right next to Central Station (100m down a pedestrian tunneL) |
