I went to the North Island for 3 weeks a few years back.

You must go to the hot mineral pools at DeBretts, Lake Taupo - talk about a slice of heaven.

You can relax in these natural mineral pools at night, under the stars & listen to the beautiful sounds of the wildlife... I dream of going back one day.

I'd give Rotarua a miss... far too touristy & very expensive.

I also found general groceries to be extremely expensive compared to Australia.. it was quite a shock.

Public transport is a pain in the rear end too... almost non existent & frustratingly hard to get reliable info (in & around Auckland).

All up though, New Zealand is a very pretty country with many interesting things to see & do. Hostels are first rate & well priced.

New Zealanders are very friendly & love a good chat, will bend over backwards to be helpful & maybe if you are lucky you may be invited for a private "hungi" (I think that's how it's spelt). A simple "Kiora mate" to a Moari will almost certainly produce a huge ear to ear grin :-))))

Depending on where you're from, you'll probably find NZ either like a quaint version of Northern California in the 1950s, or a bit like Wales, or a bit like the Ticino in Switzerland if it belonged to the British.
Wherever you're from, you'll find that life here is easygoing and humane. Paid holidays and working hours are pretty good even by European standards, and you can live a lot even for little money. If you like cars with V8 engines, motorboats, and pretty old houses, you can pretty much indulge from the word "go" even on a not so glamourous income. Restaurants and going out is excellent. The people are a sincere and capable bunch who respect a skilled person and are good to be with in general.
On the downside, don't be surprised when it snows on you - the climate is not subtropical, as many outsiders seem to think. This place is on the cool side. Other than that, incomes may seem low by comparison with the US and UK (but only as long as you don't factor the lifestyle into the equation), and the driving is just plain nuts, they're all immortal rallye drivers down here.
Hope that helped.

I live in NZ. The worst things about it are the obsession with sport and the capitalist system, which is a fairly recent development. Most other things about life here are pretty good. Most of our visitors enjoy their stay here.

Most people coming to New Zealand, start off in the North Island, then come down to the South. The south island has heaps of things to do, the bush etc is great, and the best way to travel is by car as then you get to see it all!!!

Queenstown has bungyjumping, and heaps of other extreme sports etc.

Honestly the best thing to do is buy a map, and just make your way round the country.

In the south island people are really friendly, pubs are great!!!

Hey i live in wellington nz,The worst things about nz would be the politics!

A ausome place to visit would be queens town in the lower north island-this is a major tourist destination.
The cons? to many tourists visiting and not returning home becouse nzs so ausome.

I live in New Zealand.

I think there are many pros and cons about living in this country.

It does depend where you live. I live in the South Island. People generally consider this part of New Zealand the prettiest. There are lots of birds and animals and plants. There are many things to do down here. Lots of farming, walks. Etc...

In the North Island it is generally warmer. Most people live in the North Island. There are many nice beaches up there.

A big con for me is the weather. It gets very cold here. Check out this website, it gives you the latest weather here- www.metservice.co.nz

I'm sure you have done some research on the main cities and etc but if you havn't, here are some sites.
