Yeah, the place is crawling with poisonous spiders, venomous snakes and great snapping crocodiles :D

Just joking.
Why do you think it is dangerous?

Most of the people in Australia live in a city, probably not much different to cities elsewhere in the world. Just as the polite poster above me explained.

What would you be hoping to see if you came to Australia? We do have a lot of unique wildlife which you don't have to travel very far from the city to see but of course seeing that it is wild you may only catch a glimpse of it before it hops, flaps, scurries or slithers into the bush.
You only find crocodiles in the far north and there will be plenty of signs there warning you not to swim there, there are very few people killed by crocs.

I see you name is 'horselover'. I live on the outskirts of Perth (capital of Western Australia) in a semi rural area with little 5 acre hobby farms - think Americans would call them small holdings . Almost all my neighbours have a couple of horses, some people have sheep, goats or alpacas. I have a couple of standardbreds but they are just paddock ornaments :-(

Have a look at this wiki article about Perth, it makes it look so dull that even your grandmother will want to come here.

it is extremely dangerous, you should listen to your family. Today a 25 foot salty gnawed on my right leg, Im lucky Im jake the blake with the extra leg.

H.
Of course not: you're far more likely to be killed by some nutter in the outback than eaten by a crocodile or bitten by a snake. Our crime rate is very low as well and most, practically everyone, does not own a gun. Yes, there are spiders and snakes, but bugger all in the city. There would seriously only be two occasions, at most each year, when there is a spider in my house. Snakes are rarely found in the suburbs. It's the drop bears you should be more worried about. We love tourists, they taste like chicken.

Bardy
Of course it's not dangerous, only keep away from the billabongs at night or the bunyip will get you.

Ha ha, i love this misconception! I live in western Australia, our back yard is the great sandy desert! No, it isn't dangerous at all! Unless you go out bush bashing and swimming in rivers that say 'Danger! Crocodiles!' You'll be right! It's just like any other part of the world, there are cities and houses and suburbs!
Come on over, we love visitors!

I hope you do come and visit. Our family live in Queensland ( 10 hrs drive North of Sydney), at the state's capital Brisbane. It is a beautiful place if you love beaches, countryside, mountains.

There are lots of outdoor activities to do, even working is fun.
I've added a web address of QLD tourism- (QLD is also home to our local late Steve Irwin Crocodile hunter.)

I guess it is only dangerous if you hang out at the wrong pub!
best wishes and hope to see you down here some time!

rowanc88
Of course not...

I'll be critical here, but you're an idiot if you really think something will happen if you come to Australia.

It is EXACTLY the same as the US, if you stay in a city, you are VERY unlikely to even see any wildlife. In fact, there'll be WAY less of a chance that you're shot or robbed in Australia, because of our MUCH lower crime rate.

Even if you went into the outback, you'd be more likely to die in a car crash than be eaten by a crocodile or bitten by a snake.

Yes we have spiders and snakes and crocs and sharks. But the crocs will only get you if you swim in a dam that has crocs in it out in the northern bush areas somewhere out there! The sharks will only get you if you swim in an area that sharks frequent! Which isnt any of the popular beaches here! And the snakes will only get you if you walk in the bush with no footwear!

They arent everywhere! You have to go find them! People dont die every day here from snakes, crocs, sharks and spiders! Its like saying "Im not going to visit Arizona because its to dangerous!!!" Just because they have rattlesnakes! Or whatever state has rattlesnakes!

Your not nuts! We all live here Millions of us and we have survived! LOL Said tongue in cheak!

Come over! Just dont swim in any swampy areas in Cairns! Like you wouldnt swim in swampy areas in America where Alligators are! Dont jump in the ocean where you see sharks swimming and or it isnt a public beach! Its just common sense!

It isnt how people think it is portrayed on shows. Kangaroos and crocs and koloas are not everywhere! Actually I have never ever seen a wild Koala!

And like someone else said Australia is way more safe crime wise then some other places!

Australia is very safe. Sure, you don't leave your car unlocked, or walk the streets on your own in the dark, but Australia is very safe.

Country Australia is even safer. Crimes are big news in regional areas. You are pretty safe here.

I once had some kids try to break into my house while I was away, but that's the closest I ever came to being a victim of crime.

Our traffic laws are very strict. Speeding and drink driving are serious.

well.. i dunno .. we DID have a copperhead snake in our suburban melbourne backyard yesterday......

it might be a little more dangerous than you think!

Shinny
Not dangerous? well tell that to Steve Irwin :D

Only joking. I've been to Australia a few times (Melbourne and Sydney) as my brother is married to an Australian and I love the place !!
