Apply for a permanent part time job but want to quit after a month?

Hi, i am not very familiar with the working rules in Australia.. i am on my holidays now, and thinking to get a job to kill my time. the problem is i'll have to return to my uni in early march, and most of the jobs advertised are searching for permanent part time instead of casual (as far as i know, casual means i can quit any time). so, is it alright if i apply for a permanent part time and let's say if i've got accepted, can i quit the job after a month (but not telling them my plan when i start working)?

Most jobs can take a month to train an employee ... so it seems pointless. .... however, I have a mate where I live that has a high turnover with staff due to doing the same thing you are thinking of.... he has a pizza - pasta shop.... (and pays cash) so I suggest maybe something like that where it will be a simple job, fast food - takeway shop and they know you are filling in for a month to help out.

Depends on your ethical standards. You may cost them money in re-filling the position, plus you will cause someone esle who actually needs the job to miss out. It does not make you look good, and you never know when that will come back and bite your bum.

You wouldn't be the first and probably not the last to do that. It would only be a problem if you wanted to go back to work for them or use them as a reference.

Its not morally honest, but thats life.

If I were an employer.... choosing a visitor to do permanent part time work would not be the best choice for me. I would choose an applicant who is a citizen or permanant resident who is more likely to appreciate and need the position.

Elizabeth
Most jobs have at least a one month probationary period.
At the end of or during the probationary period either you or the employer can decided that you are not right for the job and terminate the employment.
It happens all the time.

What were you planning on saying, at interview, as to what you do with your time if you don't plan on telling them about Uni?

If you enter the employment contract knowing you won't be staying longer than a month you will be being dishonest and a liar but that's for you to live with.

It does say a lot about you and your ethics.

if you are a foreign student do you have a work permit to allow you to work?

if you do you can work 20 hours a week when uni is in and full time when uni is on holidays
but be fair and don't take a full time job then them leave them high and dry when it suits you

Tom O
if you get an interview then you should probably tell them that you are a uni student and cannot work in term time they will be likely to keep this in consideration when they are thinking of hiring.

Thats no way of keeping a job later on.. you dont need a job if ur not going to be a responsible person for it.

permanent part time just means you will never be hired for full time work
