Wow, again you prove the question I posted earlier. Americans have a love affair with Australia, why? Anyway, the popular bands are:
AC/DC, Air Supply, Midnight Oil, Little River Band, Olivia Newton-John, Bee Gees, Andy Gibb.

Been to Australia, liked UK, France, Ireland and Canada better.

The short answer? Not really. We're a small country and breaking in to some of the bigger markets, such as the US, is difficult because they have plenty to choose from.

Some bands are lucky enough to get exposure outside of the country but it takes a hell of a lot of hard work. For example Jet did really well in the States for a small time. The Living End have toured there a bit as have Grinspoon.

For some of the more unusual ones, The Hoodoo Gurus were pretty big in Brazil. This was partly due to their sound and both countries are surfing mad.

Due to our links to the UK we fair better in their music market but if you take a look US artists don't do as well there.

Ask yourself this.Do you know of any Malaysian artists? Ukranian? Polish? Brazillian?

Yes, we're becoming more Americanised (Americanized?) but that doesn't mean the culture flow goes both ways. Just because it is known in your little sphere of the world doesn't mean it is known worldwide.

The world knows of Australia but that doesn't mean it knows Australia and it's culture.
