No they are still around. Great White Sharks are alive and well and cruising the oceans as we speak.

Who is James Burke of Mesa, Arizona?
He probably doesn't see too many Great White Sharks in Arizona.

James Burke of Mesa, Arizona is a fool if he thinks that the Great White Shark is extinct. They are a endangered animal and we have only a rough estimation of how many are alive but they are on the way to recovery and are far from extinct.

He might be talking about Megaladon which is believed to be a relative of the Great White shark but Megaladon die out a couple of hundred thousand years ago.

tell James Burke to jump in the Australia waters and he will see they are not extinct

There are Great white Sharks in many of the Oceans around the world. Here in Australia we have had people Attacked by them. In South Australia one can do a boat trip and go in a cage under water to View them.
