i'm american but i lived in australia for a few years...from my own experience, yes, it was better in many ways than the USA. the culture is more laid back, the crime rate was a billion times lower, socialized medicine helps ensure less people go without health care, there was something to do no matter what you were in the mood for (i was a half hour away from beaches, hiking, the big city and all it held, quiet small towns to ramble & shop in, club hopping, etc.). the people were incredibly friendly and the climate was wonderful...no snow in the winter in sydney, yet it wasn't as hot & humid as the US either...it had a more even temperature overall.
the main complaint i had was that everything was so expensive - it cost 11.50 to get in the movies, at a time when it was only 3.75 to do so in the USA...so it was a bit of a shock to have to pay so much more for things. but it was more than worth it. |

I am not Australian, but I have lived here many years after leaving my home country of England.
It is very nice here, and it has varied weather depending on what State you decide to live in.
Some areas are very hot, but others are quite reasonable.
Even here in Queensland, if you pick your area it doesn't get TOO HOT.
We have relatives in the States, and they would prefer to be in Australia !! But even then it does depend on which US State you are. They are in LA, and would love their kids to have the same outdoor freedom that ours get, and that we take for granted. |

Nope, but i love Australia like you do and have future plans of living there :) I've been to Sydney,Melbourne and Perth and i've always loved my trips to these cities.Likewise,i've visited NY,LA.NJ, Washington,Atlanta among the US states but i like Aus better.Life is more simple. |

I believe it is better than the US. I have been to the west coast of America and didn't like it much. It was so dirty and crowded and not very good (except for Disneyland - that was awesome!) Australians have a nicer attitude (more like Canadians - been there too) and the place is much cleaner (ie we still have a blue sky). It probably depends where you go in both countries and what you like... but for me I could never choose the US over Australia. |

As an addition to the person who said it is more expensive here, that is true.
But we get paid better here and people don't have to work 2 or 3 jobs as much as in the States or beg for tips to survive. |
