we are a very multicultural country and we have travellers from overseas on our shores all year round, year in and year out
you will find Aussies to be very pleasant to you and will accommodate you if you should need anything. Alot of people will go out of their way to help
I hope you enjoy your stay here |

Here is a wee repeat of an answer I gave someone else:
--------------------------
When I lived there I found it to be an extremely racist place. I witnessed shocking things said to people who did not fit the image of an 'Australian'.
I think that there is a lot of well known proof of this being the case, but most Australians are so indoctrinated into those aspects that they do not recognize it - what about the historical Australian 'White Australia Policy'. The White Australia policy is a term used to describe a collection of historical policies that intentionally restricted non-white immigration to Australia from 1901 to 1973. Then there is Aboriginal assimilation and the 'Stolen Generation'. This is before you consider the well known phrase in Australia 'the Yellow Peril'.
On top of this lets consider the widespread use of the slang term 'Wog' to describe immigrants. The phrases 'Boong' and 'Abbo' to describe Aboriginals.
How about the Cronulla race 'riots' on recent Australia Days? Or the fact that in Moree it isn't that many years ago that Aboriginal people were not even allowed to swim in the mineral pools where the white folks go.
The evidence goes on and on, honestly I am just scratching the surface.
----------------------
However the repeat ended, I will add:
Now I am not sure about how people from your nation are treated, however racism is so very common and widespread that you will see it often.
A lot of national groups have set up their own clubs in response to the treatment as havens for people to get away from it - I know of the Serbian, Croatian and Austrian clubs in Sydney for example. Perhaps see if there is one for your nation and contact them for more information. |
