Are dishwashers common in Australia?

Here in the U.S. almost everyone has a dishwasher (well, everyone who lives in an updated home or apartment). Are they common in Australia or only put in new homes?

Thanks!

Actually, in comparison to homes in the US, they are not as common here in Australia. I am an American living in AUS and at least in Queensland ( a state in AUS ) where I live, they are not as common as you see in the US. Most of the older homes we visit do not have them or garbage disposals. And a few of the new homes I have been in, don't have them but that is personal preference. They are certainly available to purchase in stores in AUS ( as common as in the US ) with plenty of choices and brands but I don't think the number of diswashers in the homes is as high. The price of purchasing a dishwasher is higher than in the US even with the exchange rate.

No, we have no electricity in Australia. Anyway, we don't use plates, we eat off the floor.

(exasperated) What do you think, seriously? Are you by any chance a typical American who has almost no knowledge of the outside world?

Australia is a first world country and our economy is in far better shape than yours right now. Why not come and visit and see for yourself?

Most homes have a dishwasher. Those homes without are usually small/older.

Most people I know have a dishwasher.
So, yes, I guess they are reasonably common.

It would be much the same here. Some people don't want to spend the money on them and just do the dishes themselves but dishwashers are common. Most new homes come with them.
