Are you for or against changing the date of Australia Day? |
Aboriginals want the date changed because they feel that 26th January is 'invasion day'. What do you think about it? |

The Aboriginals should be happy that it is called Australia Day not Invasion Day. |

You cannot deny history, never mind how many sorry campaigns. They came, they saw and they conquered. Territorial campaigns have been happening for many, many years throughout the world.
Look at it positively, they were brought from the Stone Age to the Free Pension Age without having to endure the Bronze Age or Iron Age. |

I DO NOT think it should be changed.. Australia day marks the establishment of the first European Settlement. This is a pioneering date that cannot be shifted.. Instead of dwelling on the past, embrace the Australian spirit and that is to go and enjoy yourself, love your mates and be happy to live in such a diverse country, thanks to our pioneering forefathers..
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY TO ALL ON 26th of JANUARY.... EVERY YEAR!! |

don't Worry aboriginal tribes where invading each other long before we turned up |

26th of January has never been known to me as invasion day but rather our day of federation.
Honestly, the Aboriginal community will NEVER be happy. Why change a tradition after so many years. |

Well not really. It's not that I don't respect Aboriginal's opinions, but it's not all about them. The Australian government is bending over backwards to accommodate for Aboriginals needs and improve their communities etc. It is everybody's country, including all races that live here. The 26th January should be a date for us to all remember that. |

I am against it.
That is just one of a very long list of things that they WANT.
One should realize that the universe does not orbit around them. Why don't they try some sort of reconciliation instead of wanting it to be 100% their way all the time.
The pendulum will start to swing back one day! |

Some Aboriginals want it changed and these are usually the ones sitting their offices dictating to those that they look down on but are supposed to be helping I have met plenty of these bureaucrats that only have their own best interests at heart.
Most others will be down having a picnic enjoying the fireworks with their kids with the rest of us Aussies. |

We give enough hand outs to the Aborigines why cant we have one day where every other Aussie can celebrate and be proud of there nation. |

The first fleet arrived on the 26th of Jan. 1788. If we change the date, then it won't be Australia Day anymore, now would it?
So, we have to stop celebrating it now because 3% of our population don't like it? Give me a break......
If they don't like it they don't have to celebrate with us, simple. |

No, the date shouldn't be changed.
The aboriginal 'leaders' who get carried away about changing the date of Australia Day should get a sense of proportion about what's really important to improving their lot as opposed to what is nothing more than pointless window dressing.
The government needs to do a great deal more but aboriginals themselves need to make vast changes in the way they live and interact with the wider community. Aboriginal leasers who want anyone to believe that changing the date of Australia Day will make the slightest difference are confusing activity with action and conning everyone - most of all, the aboriginal people themselves.
Until aboriginals who don't send their children to school every day, do so: and those who don't live decent productive, non-violent lives, come to adopt the mores of the mainstream of Australian society, it won't matter in the slightest when we celebrate Australia Day or even if it's celebrated at all. If their 'leaders' can't see that, then they should be replaced with people who are prepared to look ahead rather than back. |

I think it should be changed. January 26 is OK for New South Wales, but other states were formed at other times. The real start of "Australia" is January 1st, 1901. It was only then that the country was unified, and named Australia. |

god everything i read here is blatant disrespect to aboriginal people.
australia day doesnt mean we celebrate how great australia is, british came and destroyed aboriginal culture, murder, rape etc and u want to celebrate that? it is invasion day and it should be a day such as anzac day where we commemerate, and show respect to aboriginal people who wear affected heavily, and having Australia day on a different day gives it the chance to be a day where we DO celebrate australia for how great it is. but how is it so great when people keep ignoring what happened to aboriginal people and show no repect to them.
people in this country really need lsten to themselves when they say ' a fair go for all' and then turn around and disrespect aboriginal people. one day in their shoes and u would see how badly u treat them |
