As a colony of Australia, do you think New Zealand should hold a referendum to seek their independence?

Additional Details
As you may have gathered, this was just a gentle leg pull. I know NZ is not a colony of Oz, it's just with it being a little island stuck between Oz and Taz...

surely this is a 'joke' question, seing as NZ is not and never has been a colony of australia...

O.M.G. New Zealand was originally populated by nomadic sea fearing natives from the Pacific Islands. Polynesian Islanders who searched for new lands to inhabit, just like the Norse Vikings. NZ was never a colony of Australia as this country was populated by Aboriginal people who never left their native lands and were never inclined to travel further than their own tribal borders. That would be like saying England is a colony of Wales!!
NZ is independent and under its own rule and is governed by duly elected Parliament.

hooverdamsel
Ouch!! You are going to get some good bites from the NZers for this one. Cheeky man!!

tentofield
While New Zealand is not and never has been a part of Australia or a colony of it, there is room in the Australian Constitution for New Zealand to join the Australian Federation of States should they wish to do so. All it requires is a referendum of New Zealanders agreeing to join Australia and they become Australians - but equals not a colony.

NZ is not a colony of Australia, plain and simple.

If they were a colony, they would surely seek their independence.

NZ has NEVER been a COLONY of Australia!!!!

NZ became independent from Britain in 1907, but is still a member of the British Commonwealth.
Sheesh, the education levels in this world are dropping very fast!!!

What NZ should be doing is having a referendum to dump the Monarchy. QE2 is outdated and old fashioned.

What the hell are you on!!!
NZ is not now nor has been nor bloody well never will be any part of Australia.
Australia was a British Penal colony, NZ was also a British colony, now part of the commonwealth but never a penal colony only aussie has that distinction. Maori were a seafaring people that travelled and migrated all over the pacific primarily settling in NZ.
If you are asking this as an australian being a smart **** trying to get a rise than you have some serious issues and need to see a shrink.
