Between 17 and 18. I was 17 when I finished Year 12.

MOST people turn 18 the year they are in year 12 . . . so that would make people 18, with some 17, and the occasional 19 year old. It just depends on if you started school a year early, or got held back a year, or whatever, but mostly - 18.

Billie
Either 17 or 18 years old

probably 17 or 18, around the U.S. graduation age.

Mrs M
Normally a year 12 high school student will be 17 or 18 when they finish school.

you can "graduate" - I hate that term as we don't use it in Australia. from year 10 at 15/16 and again at the end of year 12 at 17/18

BillyoftheSouth
17 in most states I think.

The rules for which age you start school vary throughout Australia.

In NSW you start school either at 5 or at 4 depending when your birthday is. The cut of is June 30, so those born in the beginning of the year are 4 turning 5, it is common for some parents to hold back children born after April but they don't have to. Those born after June start when they are already 5 years of age.

So this makes you either 18 or going to turn 18 before June 30 the year after you graduate.

If you only go to year 10 then you will be 15 or 16. These students tend to go to TAFE and get a trade or an apprenticeship.

Interestingly. My birthday is July 17 and I started the year early. I was already in preschool a few days a week and had been for a few years. I am an only child and the school had a vacancy. This was a private school, which may make a difference. Only once was it suggested I repeat because I was 'immature' I was FOUR for goodness sake of course I was immature. I never had any problems with grades and was always up near the top of my class.
