Australia can not see the North Star as we are not in the northern hemisphere. Just like you can not see the Southern Cross, only the southern hemisphere can.

Obamas Shoes
You can't see the North Star below the Equator.

the_news_junky
I could be wrong but I think that the North Star can not be seen in the Southern Hemisphere (Australia).

Spazzed out <--xoxo-->
We are in the southern hemisphere we can't see the northern star at all.

We can see the southern cross though :)

Claire Blue Says Hi
Never. Have you a map handy? You see that line running around the middle? That's called the equator, above that line is called 'Northen Hemisphere' below it's called 'Southern Hemisphere'

The Northern Star is called such because it can only be seen in the 'Northern Hemisphere'

The Southern Cross however, you can see everywhere in the 'Southern Hemisphere' It points to North, South, East and West, it's a giant compass in the sky!

we dont see it at all

we see the Southern Cross.

The North Star is not visible from Australia.

Orion can be seen towards the north of our sky though...

LOL.

Quick lesson -

Australia - means Southern.

Australia is therefore in the Southern Hemisphere.

Being Southern, we cannot see the NORTHERN star.

Instead, we see the SOUTHERN cross, a much more interesting and cool constellation.

A cross is generally two lines perpendicular to each other.

In this case, it is 4 stars.

For an example, take a squiz at our Aussie flag.
