In my 32 years of living in Australia, no-one has ever said "G'day Mate". Maybe in the movies, but not in real life.

"Mate" is a term I think I've heard once.

sonyack
They both do. Australians use it more often when speaking to a person, as in "Buy me a pint, mate." The Brits use it more when speaking about a person, as in, "I met me mates at the pub..." But generally, they both use the term about the same.

cal
As a pommie living in Oz ,i reakon its pretty equal , we personally say it alot and i also hear lots of aussies saying it ,so 50,50 id say.

Australians say it more, I think it's the standard greeting for shopkeepers isn't it?

but the Pommies do also.

G'Day Mate
Of course us aussies say it more than the brittish and we say mate better and with meaning.

Power Flower
Both, most of our culture did come from Britain originally.

The Aussies would say it more often but basically every non-american says it
