The outback look is:
Akubra Hat,
Moleskins Trousers,
Drizabone Coat,
RM Williams riding boots.

We dress the same as American people. About 2% of the population own an Akubra hat and of those 1% are actual farmers.

We dress the same way as any other western country.

So you'd probably just wear your own clothes.

im australian, i dress the same as americans. put on normal clothes for your project. but if u want something "traditional-ish" then maybe a "steve irwin" outfit.

honestly, i think they dress da exact same as we do. sry i couldn't help out that much...

I think davoinau gave you some good links... but as others have said, most Aussies dress basically the same as Americans do. The people in the north dress in different clothes than the people in the south, because we have different climates.

Are you doing your project on a certain period in Australian history, or is it more contemporary ?

Australians tend to dress casually in almost all situations. There are few occasions when you will need to wear formal clothes.
In the workplace, it is expected that you dress in clean, pressed clothing, such as pants, jeans (no holes or rips), shirts, skirts (not too short), dresses, t-shirts (no slogans) and jackets.

Just wear a singlet or tshirt, shorts and thongs (I think you call them flip flops?)

You could probably do the Aussie surfer look in the USA fairly easily. Get Rip Curl or Lightening Bolt clothes and ugg boots.
Or if it's a bit hot, go for the Aussie surf live saver look and just wear speedos and thongs, or the Aussie football supporter look if they have any of the clothes over there.

Think about what a jungle explorer wears and add a big hat with corks on string all round...so khaki shorts and shirt and a big hat.
