Australia - Love it or leave it?

Okay.. i am in high school and there are lots and lots of europeans.. or wogs at my school.

They think they are all "fully sick" and stuff.

They have no pride in australia at all.. and are always bagging it out. calling us dirty aussie c****.
I mean seriously.. i have irish, danish and english background and i am proud out that.. I can understand that they have alot of pride in their ethnicity.. but that doesn't mean they have to hate australia does it?

This question is a generalisation.. and i have a few good friends who hang out with the 'wogs' but they also acknowledge the beauty of this country.. and the diversity of its people.
if you move here form another country.. then don't seperate yourself from its entire population.. i mean they must have moved here for a reason right?

I am just sick of the lack of pride and gratefulness they have for this country and its people. Am i right? and does anyone else experience the same thing?

Additional Details
I don't like to use the term 'wogs'.. but this is what they call themselves..
I have always been taught not to use it because it offends them.. but they label themselves wogs.. i would't use a word that could be considered derogatory towards them

Oh gosh, I am so with you on this one.

I go to school in an eastern suburb and around a third of the school are "wogs" or "muzzas"

They constantly dis Australians and put us down, when they're in our country? I don't get that!!

They speak like they don't want to be in Australia, like hello, we let you in so at least appreciate that you're here.

This is a very frustrating topic, hey??

I have wog friends, and they ever so discreetly hint that "Aussies are gay" .. its so annoying.

They should open up their eyes, take in Australia, open their f**king minds and see that they are lucky to be here.

ULLLLLLEEEEEHHHHHH!

Lol, peace out.

Yes I have experienced the same sort of attitude in the workplace and sometimes it comes from educated people so it's not just school students like yourself who experience this sort of racism towards Australians. As for the folk who have mentioned the right of freedom of speech remember if the shoe were on the other foot we would be branded racist.

Mel
I agree completely, if they hate it so much then why live here. They are free to leave at any time.

They want to live here so they should respect our country and our values.

If they want to live a life like they did in XYZ country and speak xyzish then they should be living in xyz not Australia.

I totally agree with the answerer above, those who are most racist are the ones who scream racism. For example, some darker skinned people call all white people racist, now isn't that itself being racist! Being called white trash is just as racist as calling someone a ***...

I do agree in principle with your statement "Australia - Love it or leave it", and I speak as an immigrant myself.

However, what I think you are seeing, is a section of todays youth, (who may well have been born here), who need something to rebel against, as almost all generations have done in the past, and what this group are rebelling against is their country. Maybe they will grow out of it ?

I don't see any of it myself, as it may not be in all areas of Australia, but that would be my guess.

I do wish those particular Europeans did not use the term "wog" to describe themselves though, as I grew up thinking that was a bad word, and I could never use it these days.

The Silver Foo Dog
Leaving your ancestry aside, I truly believe like you do if they don't like living in Australia then they can go back to the Sh*thole that they came from and then they might appreciate Australia more.

This is kind of thing which helped fuel the 2005 Cronulla riots. A small percentage of Lebanese (generalizing) people calling Australia things and well you saw what happened when it came to a head. But yes I am very sick of people who came from other countries that are (or were) war torn, under a brutal rule or whatever start insulting the country that welcome them with open arms. So yes if the people don't like Australia and the good and bad that comes's with it then they can FU*K off to someplace else that might suit them better.

You have irish, danish and english background...does that not mean you too have european background? The way you define "wogs" means you too are one.

You want people to respect your country but you don't respect these people's backgrounds by using such a derogatory word and generalising them. The whole "pride in our country" often leads to over the top patriotism as we saw in the cronulla riots. It disgusts me that people are racist and violent in the name of Aussie pride. It's such a hypocrisy. Thankfully we're allowed to express our beliefs in Australia without fear of prosecution but we can be proud of our nation without the flag waving and the racism.

I love this country, but there are aspects of it that I am quite ashamed of. Does that mean I too should leave?

I was born here and have, thankfully, never experienced what you're describing.

I do agree with your statement - Australia - Love it or leave it!

I don't think your attitude is helping the situation you describe.
Why use the term "wogs"?
It's just not acceptable in the wider Australian community.
I don't know where you live but I think if you travel around the country, you'll see it's not the same in most parts of the country.

i'm an irish/cherokee in the states. i don't know much about austrailia, but it's the one place on earth i just want to go to before i die. sounds like you are getting some resentment of the PC crowd that wants to run down the things you hold dear. no offense, but i think we made that an art form here in the US. my advice would be to trust that there are more people that feel like you than you know. people that value tradition, even when others call it BAD. here, white morons cling to the confederate flag, while almost zero blacks give a crap, until once in a while some dumbass makes a big deal of it to profit himself. thing is, they say words like ngr that just keep the hate alive. i dunno what a wog is, but, i think you are using it to run down a lot of people, most of whom are pretty decent and love grandma. just love grandma, man... and realize that the world won't go back to pre-internet status of "i can safely hate that group of people"

Yes,,you are right,,and its not just the so called school kiddies that do this,,until you have lived in a community that has been overrun with "wogs".(and that is what they call themselves) even when you go to the shops or even the local pub (and that can be the worst) you just want a quiet time and be left alone,, and you find yourself out numbered..bullied.ostracised..and discriminated against you dont know what its like..I have lived around the Berala,Lidcombe,Auburn,Bankstown,Punchbo... areas.....and I will NEVER EVER go back, all my family has left Sydney as well for safety reasons.

Isn't there freedom of speech and thought in Australia same as in the US? While it may be annoying to hear and pisses you off, you are lucky to live in a country where people can express how they feel without fear of being thrown out or put in jail... be grateful for that my friend.

Good on you for speaking out

Because what you say is true, Some minorities are trying to rubbish this great country and its people in the worse way possible and I'm sick of it too but when you retaliate and defend your country these people call you white trash or convict scum and all these other horrible names.

To all those people who say Patriotism is wrong can go and jump of a cliff because there is nothing wrong with being proud of this country. If it wasn't the ANZAC defending and paying the ultimate price(death) we would be all slaves and the women would be prostitutes for the Japanese solders.

So basically these people from other country's deep down they love our country but they are jealous and envious and want this country to be shite like theirs. That's what I think.

oceangirl78
Technically you are European too,so you should not be judgemental.High school kiddies do like to create conflict and I am sure that your school "mates" are the same.See they have figured out that it makes some people angry if they speak about aussies in a certain way.I bet you that you often call them names too. This creates a vicious cycle of name calling. You could always ask them to tell you what it is that they don't like about Australia or Australians.
