G'day!
If i were you I wopuls talk your mum out of Going to Perth! Western Australia is Beautiful but us Aussies reckon the W.A for Western Australia actually means Wait Awhile!!! It is a little behind the times and can be quite boring for teenagers, believe me.
If you can't get out of going to Perth i would definetly go for Queensland!!!!! Surfers Paradise is exactly what it is!! We call Brisbane Bris-Vegas and the Theme Parks are fun! Beside all that I think that Queensland is a preety good definition of what Australia really is! Sydney is a definte place to see, One of the most beautiful harbours in the world second to none. Darling Harbour, China Town, The Rocks, Circular Quay are all very beautiful but you must see the whole of N.S.W, The Blue Mountains are fantastic for its cliff tops and mountain ranges and thje most awesome absieling or rock climing in the world.
Then again Melbourne is nice if you want to hang with the sophisticated coffee drinking shoppoholics!!!
You really can't go wrong in Oz, This country is the best in the world with out a doubt!
I hope you have a great time!
As I know you will!
Cheers Mate! |

For a couple of, I guess you're, teenagers I'd suggest Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
As mentioned previously, you'd be able to visit all the theme parks, beaches etc.
Australia Zoo home of the Crocodile Hunter, the late Steve Irwin, is north of Brisbane. There are many easy ways to get there from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Whatever you choose have a wonderful time while you're here.
Melbourne has nothing to compare to any of these sites below. Don't get me wrong, Melbourne is a lovely city. I lived there for 3 years. Being there is just not anything like having a Summer holiday at the Gold Coast.

Well Brissie is the go if you're interested in theme parks, beaches and shopping.
Near Brisbane there are many theme parks such as Sea World, Movie World, dream world, etc.. There is also the Australia zoo (originally run by Steve Irwin (RIP)).
Then in the way of beaches, there is the sunshine coast, which has some of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of Australia. Near by you can also find the Great Barrier Reef, which is one of the biggest and beautifulest reef systems in the entire world.
There are also some excellant shops, for great shopping if you like that kinda stuff...who doesnt!!
Melbourne still has a lot to offer, but personally i would recommend Brisbane.
Which ever you chose I hope you and your family have a great holiday here in Australia- the place to be!!
Take Care |

If you plan on going for Nightlife, Fashion and Culture, go to Melbourne. If you want to visit theme parks and beaches, go to Brisbane and the Gold Coast. |

Definately go to Brisbane because you have the theme parks and then you have the Gold Coast and then there is Queen street Mall which has so many shops and a floor with all these video games and it is so cool. You will love Brisbane. There are good bus services and train services at your finger tips too. I hope this helps. Good luck and have fun!! |

Brisbane:
so much to offer in the way of beaches which are beautiful, gold coast, sunshine coast. Heaps of shopping, heaps of surfing opportinities. Also theme parks....Dreamworld. seaworld, wet N' wild, movie world.
heaps heaps heaps of fun.....
i would reccommend Brizzy if your mum and bro love the sun surf and sand..but make sure that you don't just stay in the city go to the beaches and stay closer to there.
however..
Melbourne;
is also great. has heaps of sporting culture, the MCG is one of the big ones. shopping is huuuuge in melb with heaps of shops from cheap to expensive.
i love the Melbourne Zoo!
and the aquarium
and your mum might like the botanic gardens.
personally i reccommend; Brisbane |

THIS IS WHAT THEY BOTH OFFER:
melbourne: more city, shopping, parying and all that type of city type stuff.... when iwent to melbourne, it didn't seem all that fancy and it was kinda really busy...
Brisbane: brizzie is more laid back, itz right near the gold coast which has 4 awsome theme parks, its not far from the glasshouse mountains, its even better if you are into going to the beach and warmer weather... its right between the sunshine coast and the gold coast, it's closer to all the tropical rainforests , also its right near the Moreton bay islands, which are tropical, obviously i live in brisbane but im origianally a sydney person... this is what i would rate all the cities that you seem interested in out of 10... sydney 9, melbourne 5, brisbane 7, perth 6,
plus.. brisbane gives you more range of australia... and queensland is definately the most laid back and friendly state in australia... hope u hav fun while ur over here!!! |

I highly recommend Melbourne. I'm an American, and have been living near Melbourne for the last two years. Southbank is very beautiful to walk around, especially down near the river. There are colored lights everywhere.
The windows at Myers are always decorated around the end of November with truly awesome Christmas themes. It's like watching a theater production, so I highly recommend them. People come from far away to see the windows. Very nice!
The nightlife is pretty cool too. I also recommend that you book a gold class movie. You get to order dinner and a gourmet dessert, and watch the movie in this huge, reclining chair! They bring out drinks, your dinner, and the fab dessert to you during the movie. http://www.villagecinemas.com.au/Cinema/goldclass.asp
The Melbourne aquarium is pretty cool, with some awesome things that you can see there.
It really is a beautiful city, I highly recommend it. There's a million things to do, truly, and the food is divine! Have fun! |

oh mate ur gonna hava sickass time aye!! i live in perth, ive been to sydney and melbourne.. i havent beenta brissy yet tho sorry cant really comment on that 1 but yeah. out of all tha places iv beenta in oz id havta say that perth [where i live] is the best city.
anywhoo to answer ya question brisbane [if u are going to the 'gold coast'] is aweeesomee. beaches galore eh, surf it up, hava barbie, steal some1s bat n find a bin play some good ol cricket on tha beach ehh... melbourne is quite city-like. i like it more than syndey.
so.
perth = laid back, more aussie kinda i rekon, less-city like, wit roo's n stuff. before skool a few years bak a roo snuck into ma garage - wtf?? haha. best river + scenery. go skydivin here its sik.
melb = shopping, city life, crazy weather.. u can hav summer autumn winter and spring in like 1 bloody day.. if u like that sorta stuff. if its a hell hot nice sunny day u cant really go to the beach coz by the time ya get there itll just rain or something
sydney = monorail, rotating restaurant thingyo, botanic gardens (YOU HAVE TO GO THERE!!!), go on the ferry to manly beach [awesomist beach]
brisbane = beach beach beach.. australias best theme park location, lots of animals n all that.
bring sunblock it'l b a hellofa summer ere aye ... im already burnt from cleanin me pool for like 2 weeks str8 lol.

i'd choose brisbane ;) theres also the big brotha house there if ya into that stuff....very kool city, very awesome. |

I live in Sydney, and would have to reccomend Melbourne for your break, but that is a personal choice. I don't think a whole lot of Brisbane, thought it does have all the theme parks etc. Melbournes just a nice city - really green in the city and galleries etc. There are also some really nice day trips you can do from Melbourne |

I have two teenagers. I asked them your question.
This is their verdict:
MELBOURNE: It's cool, cultural and has excellent shopping, especially in city and Chapel Street. Plenty to do and see. Nice river. Fire things along the river at night. Excellent casino inside, fashion is great, people are interesting, art gallery is amazing. Trams are fun too. Some really funky shops with weird teenage stuff.
SYDNEY: Beautiful harbour, take a ferry, go to the zoo, see Darling Harbour, shop, see the sights.
BRISBANE: It's close to the Gold Coast so you can see a theme park and some great beaches. Brisbane is a bit small compared to Sydney and Melbourne, but still nice because it has Southbank.
Get on the internet and do some exploring then make your own decisions.
They said definitely go to Melbourne!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's hot here at Christmas time - bring your swimmers and hats. |

|

But Why??

Too bad you can't come to Hobart the capital of Tasmania We have the greatest things going on between Christmas and New Years. First is the Syndey to Hobart Yacht races and what fun we have welcoming the boats and crews after the challenge of the race. Also we have a Taste of Tassie where all the food vendors get together down at the Wharf and put on a spread fit for a King and Queen. We have our Saturday morning Salamanca Market -- fun. And New Years Eve on the Wharf is awesome with Fireworks and lots of celebrating. |
