Australia for 6 months.. Accent?

Will I gain a slight accent in Australia while I am there for 6 months? Like will it happen without me even realizing it?

No - people who have lived here for 20 years lose their accent a little, but you can still tell they weren't born and bred here.

I know an american who has been living here for 40 years...

he still has one of the strongest American accents I have herd.

depends on how much you love australia...some people just wanna talk with a differenet accent and some people will try as ahard as they can to prevent it but sometimes, yeh, you wont realise. i had a friend going to america and came back to visit 4 months later with a slight accent.

Actually, you will get an accent as soon as you step off the plane in Australia, but it will be an American accent (if you're from the US). ;)

I've been here nearly 4 years and most people now think I sound Canadian, but I do spend a fair amount of time speaking to other Americans, so that could be keeping me from getting the accent.

I moved here in 1986, and still have my Manchester accent !

I doubt that 6 months will make much difference :)

But it may depend on what your current accent is ?

No you won't gain an Australian accent while here for such a short time.

You can try and put one on though.

No, I don't think so unless you make an effort to.
My cousin is british and she's here in the states for college.
It's been 3 years and she is naturally comfortable with her british accent, although she mastered the american accent.

You might miss the accent so much you might try to reproduce it without knowing when you get back.

G'luck and have fun while your there.
I'm planning to go there and new zealand for spring break.

If you work at it. G'Day.

i movied to england 2 years ago and i hav got a slight accsent because iv just moved from america so i dont think youll get one

Some words you may start to pronounce slightly differently but I doubt that only being here for 6 months, that you will pick up an accent. It will also depend on how strong your own accent is now.

lol i wen to chicago and picked up an accent after a week i kept trying to catch myself when i came back to mich my friend pointed out that i had an accent lol they talked different from us in michigan so its easy for me to pick up one i guess its different for everyone but its a 80 percent chance that you will pick up a strong accent i would if your like me you would to
