If you look at the Australian government website:
http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/
You'll find nearly all western countries carry the same warning, "Exercise caution" .
This is the second lowest warning the lowest being "Be Alert To Own Security."
Exercise caution.
This advice has been reviewed and reissued. It contains new information under Natural Disasters (update). The overall level of the advice has not changed.
Next up the list is:
"High Degree Of Caution",
"Reconsider Your Need To Travel",
Top of the list is "Do Not Travel". |

The travel warning for Canada is the same as the one for the United Kingdom - it is based on the risk of terrorism because Canada is a western Country - it is not because we think that Canada itself is unsafe or politically unsettled. I would assume we would give the same risk assessment to our own country also.

If they've never experienced winter, they could be in trouble.
Oh and they have to look the OTHER way before crossing the street. |

First of all I think Australia is slowly starting to regain it's mind. This was the biggest load of tripe I ever read in my life and I think it was written when "you know who" was in office. I think you will find that Canada is still regarded as a popular destination by many Aussies and nothing changes as a result really. |

I reckon this has happened because many Americans have all been traveling abroad wearing Canadian pins and Canadian flags on there luggage and people who don't like GWB or the US have cottoned onto this and made Canada also become a terrorist target. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs wouldn't place this on any of our sister commonwealth countries without a very good reason. |

"Australia is dangerous therefore Canada is safe".
The most dangerous thing in Canada is the lack of logic. |

Well I'm Australian and I'm going to Canada in August and also going on an Alaskan cruise. I read about that today and I think it's absolute rot, if they write stuff like this on Canada then people won't take any notice on any other countries that they really should heed the warning. Come on you guys at Foreign Affairs get your act together as this time you've lost the plot!!!!!! |

Exercise = use, employ, implement
Caution = care, prudence, watchfulness
Wouldn't the above serve as good universal precautions wherever you travel too? In this day and age, I can't understand how anyone could take this the wrong way. |
