oh, thats a tough one.. </sarcasm>
UK
- small,
- miserable, cold weather, constant rain
- mundane, pale, ugly and arrogant citizens
- overly expensive
- lack of beaches or tourist attractions
- sole form of recreation is getting quite drunk
Australia,
- big, spacious
- depth of climate - warm summers, mild winters/snowy winters
- variation of scenery - tropics/beaches, mountains, rainforest, desert, bush
- attractive and laid back folk
- high incomes, strong economy, impeccable living standards
- full of national parks and world heritage sites
- unique wildlife and aboriginal history
hmm.. |

Its a no brainer in my view: Oz
the UK economy is banjaxed, without a serious rethink on what governments should do, and what people should expect form government. The welfare system is in my view collapsing from too many claimants and proprotionately to few contributors. its doens't matter if you slew the rates (rasie more revenue if there is no limit on claims then it will always fall apart.
if you then factor in other things like weather, location, outlook on life then Oz wins again. Although if its so flaming marvellous then how come their are so many 'stralians in the UK
The outlook of most Austrailians is far brighter, more cheerfull, more can do than this dirty grubby island
However its a big change for and adult to leave their home, their friends their family.
Depending on the age of the child then Id guess they will probably fit in pretty easily, its going to be the mum that has to be willing to tackle the changes required to fit in. |

I would say go to Australia - the UK is going to the dogs. Rude people, gang culture, violence, filthy litter everywhere, public transport is rubbish, high cost of living - oh and Gordon Brown!.
Maybe she should go and if she hates it, then go back to the UK. In the end isn't it better to regret doing something, than to look back and regret not having a go?
Pack some fly spray - spider catchers and lots of sun screen. Besides, Australian folk always seem to be so friendly and happy go lucky. |

i choose Australia. their economy is getting better because of they sell their rare nature resources. also, they have a lovely weather too. it can keep you away from depression and cloudy. honestly, i hate london for the weather, even thought i just went there for vacation.
of course, Australia won't easily to travel another country, because it is too far from anywhere of the world. somehow, if you love the nature, then you surly can consider it, and rise the family with good enviornment with cheaper cost. |

Have lived in both places.
And I have to say, there is nothing like the Merry Old Land of Oz. |

Australia has so much going for it. Lovely weather, beaches, people, all those lovely BBQ that anyone can just turn up and use. Common sense government (well by comparison) no EU rules. Good schools, marvellous health service. Opportunities, that 'Can Do' philosophy. Hell, why aren't *I* living there? |

I would say Australia as a DEFINITE. I lived in Sydney for a while, you really can't ask for a better country and I said to myself when I left. When I have children, we are coming back.. Well, I am getting ready to move back. I wouldn't want my kids raised anywhere else, if that says anything about how good of a country it is. |

I have never even been to Australia and still i would so move there if given the choice...As others have pointed out England sucks. Australia has a waaay better quality of life. Personally...as soon as i can i am moving away from england (to USA or australia). |

I'd choose australia! have been there and loved it. Like the more relaxed and laid back lifestyle. Housing is cheaper and the climate better. |

I love both countries and would love to spend 6 months in each. I live in Sydney but spent 3 years in Britain during the mid 80's. Although I lived in Yorkshire which seemed economically depressed the attitude of the people was amazing as was their lust for life. I've explained to many Aussies who brag about our weather and denigrate Britain for theirs that the British indoor pub life has to be lived to be believed, the sense of community that I found in the west Yorkshire towns is hard to find in a city like Sydney.
It's hard to compare the two.
In the 80's many people moved to Australia for a chance at economic prosperity, but from what I hear, the economy in the UK has changed dramatically for the better. |

It really differs from person to person. If you like warmer weather and the sun, definitely Austalia. But if you like to live in a cultural country, UK is better.
I have lived in Australia for 19 years. I was born in HK and my family immigrated to Australia in 1988. It was sad to see HK went back to Communist China :-( HK was much better under British rule... Anyway I got sidetracked
I have been thinking to move to the UK myself actually. Again it's different for everyone, I prefer the cooler weather than here. Sydney and Melbourne once went up to 40c in Dec 2005. Which was unbearable. I am not a beach person at all and I like to travel, so living in UK for me is like heaven, I can travel to Europe anytime. Unlike Australia, it's expensive to travel overseas, except Asia.
Also it depends where they live in UK. If they are from London, Australia would be the place to live. Population in London is even more than the whole of Ausralia. However the train system sucks in Sydney. Melbourne is better, even cheaper to live, Weather is so similar to UK.
Anyway perhaps if they come over again, they may have a better idea
Hope that helps |

Depends on what they are leaving behind. They alone know why they have difficulty deciding. I have been to Australia twice and all my relations live there. I loved it although if I was moving I would not live in the same state as them because it wouldn't be my favourite place to live in. I may well move to the UK in the future. Yes Australia seems more appealing mainly cos of climate and the UK has more culture to it and more history. That means alot to people who have always lived there. I think you need to give them time and listen to their fears if any or their hesitations anyway. They must have good reasons. |

Australia is definetly the better place. Our beaches are made of sand not rocks, and it is a lot more conducive to live especially Melbourne. It is easier to get around, and there is free transport around the city. The sporting venues are within walking distance of the city.. Can't beat Melbourne, and it does remind a lot of Europeans of Europe. |

Not to dim the enthusiasm of most of the answerers but the down side to Australia is that it is in the grip of one of the worst droughts it has known at the moment. My girlfriend is from Brissie and found out from her Mum yesterday that people are now starting to move out of Brisbane because of the serious lack of water.
This is happening all over Australia and will keep getting worse as more people move to the country from all around the world.
So yes it is a wonderful place to live but it does have it's serious downsides as well. |

It is really up to them...what would benefit them more. Personally I'd probably choose australia - nicer weather, near the beach, friendly people, bigger houses. The question is, where would they have a better quality of life? |

UK! best place ever. austrailia is fun to go to, but i couldnt imagine living there. in the uk the towns are nicer...and its more enjoyable to stay there over a long period of time. plus~ i personally like british accents more than austrailian |
