As someone who was born in England and lived there for 15 years, but now live in Oz, I just love the Australian accent. It's just so welcoming when you're overseas and suddenly hear Australians speaking. Now I find that the English accent grates!

BTW how can anyone who is English not know what a Pommy is??

There are more than a hundred different accents in the UK, there is no "English" accent. Australians have their own accent as do New Zealanders and South Africans. Americans have four major accents with lots of minor ones and there are two main accents in Canada. I am sure that with all those accents some are going to annoy some people. Live with it, no-one cares.

I can't say that I think our accent is similar to the English accent at all.
I am an Aussie and I love our accent.
I also find other accents annoying, I think it is just what you are use to .

We may have an annoying accent, but then we didn't send our crims to a south sea paradise while we shivered away on a subarctic treeless rock a stones throw away from the French. No offence to Poms but but I would much rather have an annoying accent than be that blonde.

Which Australian accent are you talking about? There is supposed to be about six. I've heard two, perhaps three.

Never had a problem with the home counties accents, west country or northern. It's the Scots and the Irish who are unintelligible, specially after they've had a drink or three. Now that can be annoying.

Listen for "Temple Grandin" on the net, she's got a fantastic accent.

I've lived in NZ. England and Australia. The real true country Aussie is a bit funny , but the Australian accent does have a mixture of accents in it now. I can't take to serious the South African accent and some of the new Zealand words are a little strange . some people don't understand if they want a pin or a pen etc. Mind you The Common London accent is rather slow. i'm not talking about the Queens english here.I find the Canadian accent nice and soft. All of our slang is interesting

I've heard that apparently we have the same accent as the oz, but in my opinion there's is so much better lol... i love it, its weird how some love it and others hate it.

But then again i find alot of accents very annoying so i understand where your coming from.

Yes the Aussie accent is very annoying!! But I live with my lovely Aussie fiance, and I'm just used to his accent now. But when I hear other people or on the telly it's super annoying!!

And a 'pommy' - actually spelt 'pome' is a Prisoner Of Mother England, the Aussies use it as an offencive word about the English, when they are too thick to realise that in actual fact, the are the pome's!!

We sound nothing alike, but I will admit that I cringe whenever I hear the Aussie accent when ever I'm travelling overseas.

it is, I like the way they make up their own words, but it's annoying when they make out you're a fool, if you don't get their slang.

We all have our own slang ,it's no big thing.
