I believe from the description that you provided, your friend was trying to apply for the Working Holiday Visa of which nationals of Commonwealth countries can apply to.

She may previously been refused due to failure to meet certain criteria - she should be able to request for an explanation of the refusal.

In any case, according to the UK visa page, the Working Holiday Visa is being replaced by a new scheme, called Tier 5 - Youth Mobility.

Any Working Holiday Visa application that's postmarked prior to 26 November will be considered for the Working Holiday Visa, but on 27 November and after, the point-based Tier 5 system will be the way to go, and therefore any Working Holiday Visa application will not be entertained.

If your friend applies under Tier 5 - Youth Mobility, she can calculate the points to see if she meets the application point requirement - 50 points. There is a link for the calculator at the bottom of the page of the second link given above.

Unfortunately, as this is currently the transition period, you may find some of the links on the website not working, despite being the official site of the British Home Office.

If shes an aussie, 22 and has a sponsor (your family) then shes not telling you the full story.

Because if she is a 22 year old with money and a sponsor she should get an automatic visa.

The new regs should only help her. Keep digging.

Possibly because of the world financial problem and there are not enough jobs in the U.K. for British people, therefore they may be refusing immigrants for work.

As far as I understand UK Immigration Law, your friend needs to already have a job in the UK and her employer has to apply for her work permit.
