Australians! Do you get mad when you have to explain your slang? |
I'm american and when I went to Australia last summer, I had to ask a couple times what the people meant cause I didn't understand the lingo (like arvo). Do you guys get mad or do you find it amusing? |

No not at all.
All of us need to have things explained sometimes.
For example -
I hadn't realised that an entree, in the USA, is what we would call a main meal.
Here an entree is what you, in the USA, refer to as an appetiser. |

It matters but i wouldn't get mad for explaining slang ..
I would most likely get annoyed from the stupidity of some people more than anything
like asking is we have rhinos roaming free in Australia and if we have a kangaroo in every persons back yard or something ..
(and yes i have had people ask me that)
Who wouldn't get pissed off? |

I don't get mad. I don't really find it an issue. It depends on which part of Australia you are visiting as to how much slang is used. I don't use it that much..
I think its cute when outsiders don't understand it. |

Amusing. I would only get mad if someone tried to be "Aussie" and use our slang or use it incorrectly. |

I don't mind as long as there's no criticism! lol. I'm living in New Zealand at the moment and i've had people complain to me about why we say things. Other than that, i'm more than happy to explain! I'd probably ask those questions in any country i went to! :) |
