I'm an Australian living in New Zealand. I've lived in Australia for a while and New Zealand.
I didn't like the animals in Australia. In New Zealand you can walk through long grass and all you need to worry about it hayfever, in Australia you've got snakes and spiders!
It's too hot in Aussie just nice in New Zealand |

I think you'll find "most" Aussies are quite proud of their country and happy to be here.
I've lived abroad for years, and travelled to dozens of other countries - I thought all of them were amazing, and I think Australia is amazing too. Anyone who finds Australia "disappointing" obviously didn't know where to go, or didn't bother trying too hard. I've heard lots of words used to describe the Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, Kakadu, Sydney Harbour, amazing wildlife, gorgeous beaches, lovely weather and I could go on for ages.....but "disappointing" - I've NEVER heard anyone label it that before. A lot of Australians have the attitude that when a foreigner comes to live here, they do so of their own free will, and are quite free to leave at any time - rather than moan about how things were better/cheaper/faster "back home".
I left my country because I wanted to do a lot of travelling, and I found it economically more viable to do it from the UK - I was earning pound stirling - and obviously Europe and Africa are more accessible from the UK than they are from Australia. I found that it was more affordable to travel from there, and general cost of living was less - but I always thought I'd return - the same way I guess many people who leave their home countries eventually return.
I have met loads of people who have moved to Australia from abroad, and most of them learn to love Australia and Aussies for all the opportunities and interesting things there are to see here. Anyone who doesn't is usually a miserable git anyway and is better off from whence they came!!!!
I'd recommend living in Australia, for at least a little while in everyone's life - and get out there and see it all!! Enjoy! |

Hey Randy, Bring Earl And Joy With You !
The only way I'd ever leave Australia is in a pine box, I'm a ex pat American and I live in Sydney you will feel a total weight leave your shoulders once you get here. Yes there are a lot of differences between the US and Australia. Believe me they are all good free hospital and medical treatment , good schools, jobs and business opportunity's. All people here are good down to earth friendly people they dress casually and they are not all morally twisted or materialistic or brag about trivial bs stuff or about material things. TV here isn't modified or what we wear at the beach or at the swimming pools it freaks a lot of Americans out to see this. As for holidays and traveling there are so many places to go and it would take a life time to see them all. |

PS: Re Cecile ~ awwww, c'mon people, don't bag her out too bad, not everyone is happy everywhere. For example lots of pommies go home when they discover is does actually rain sometimes here, lol (j/k)! Homesickness is a powerful thing. But, Cecile, there's also no guarantee it would be better elsewhere. Maybe you are feeling a bit isolated? Finding some new friends and having a bit of fun often helps stop the blues!

The only reason I would consider leaving Australia would be political, but that is a looooong story and pertains to an election we have coming up on Saturday.
Basically, Australia is a good place. Almost 98 per cent of the population is descended from immigrants (willing or not), and there are actually a LOT of immigrants here from the US who have made Australia their home.
Many are surprised that we enjoy the same freedoms as the US, without the violence and race problems, at least not on such a big scale, and a more relaxed lifestyle to boot.
Some of this may not be apparent at first because things work differently here, but if you take the time to find out what goes on, you won't have too much trouble.
But it's a smaller country (population wise) and can obviously feel like a bit of a backwater to people used to being surrounded by other countries and not too far from a lot of borders.
We like it that way (not much choice if we don't, lol), but it is one drawback I've heard mentioned.
We have our own way of doing things, and can seem very odd to go-go-go US types, but Australians are hardworking, creative and very focussed on what's important to us.
OK, that's the travelogue, now back to arguing about politics elsewhere (OK, some things are the same everywhere, hehehe.)
Cheers :-) |

Absolutely no way I would consider living anywhere else!
Australia is great, not too populated, good economy, beautiful natural wonders in every state and territory, all climates from snow to desert, so many different cultures and peoples, fabulous beaches all over the country, people with generally a great sense of humour, fantastic shopping in the larger cities... I won't rattle on anymore - you get the gist.
I've lived in and travelled to many countries and generally the only worries that people have about Aussie is that there is a water shortage, and there are snakes and spiders. If you can get used to being conservative with water and not putting yourself in situations where bugs or snakes are in danger of biting you, you get to live in possibly the best place on earth!
I hope you decide to make the move, you'll love it :o) |

Living, permanently, in another country has never crossed my mind.
Why would I want to swap an ideal life for ????? who knows what.
I've lived all over Australia and loved it but am now back home in Queensland for good.
As they say in the Queensland advertisements:
"Beautiful one day. Perfect the next".
I do hope you'll love and enjoy Australia as much as I do, if you do choose to move here. |

Tuppenyb... how can you insult someone who has a different point of view? Cecile has the right to not find Australia "the best place on Earth"! and what makes you think she is still there, anyway?????!!! If all australians are as tolerant as you seem to be, no wonder why she did not like it there!!! It is a good image of your country that you give here. |

I would never leave Australia forever. I would like to travel to Africa, but Australia will always be home for me. I love this country too much. |

I couldn't think of a single reason why I personally would leave Oz. Like many Aussies Ive been overseas, to Europe and Asia and whereas they are great places to visit, I can't wait to get back on Australian soil. And even when I die I will be in Australian soil, until my bones turn to dust. I'm proud of my country, even when it sucks (mostly because of politics and religion), but I would never leave. Australia is a beautiful diverse continent, with a wonderful attitude to life. We have our problems, but we are a young country still finding our way.
Australia is paradise compared to a lot of the countries in the world and I love my sunburnt country. |

I'm not going to go into why I love Australia or the things that may not be the best, but I am going to qualify a topic I find people often warn others about Australia;
Bugs & Snakes.
Come on! It's not that bad!
Living in Adelaide - the capital city of South Australia - for 22 years I have never come across a snake, unless you count the one brought to our class in year 5. *rolls eyes*
Yes, we do have bugs. I'm sure you have them where ever you come from too. There's a couple of spiders you have to watch out for. But I've never personally come across them.
We are very lucky since we have a very free society and for the most part people are quite friendly. (aw look, it turns out I did start to talk about what I like about home...) |

I also could never think of living anywhere else but here in Australia. We aussies have a rare sense of humour that takes some getting use to, we give most people nicknames that stick with them all their lives. Our sense of humour can be taken the wrong way but its never like what it sounds at all. Some would even think we have a racist streek in us but we don't. We give anyone a fair go ... BUT if they cross our way of life; believe me; our reactions are not rasist based but rather 'Home Management' to keep our Australia as Australian as we can. We accept all colours and creeds who come here legally and we expect them to adjust to our easy going free style of life and living. Come here and start preaching "the ways of home where you come from" and you will soon get the message to "go home" (or 'Bugga off' as we say). Heck .. my pen pal from Wales even came out here to see me 32 years ago. We married and she never even thinks of going back to the UK to live. Lucky woman it only took her 4 months to become an Australian - it took me 9 months!! |

All Austalians love their country. They think it is the best place on Earth. I am not australian and I don't think it is the best place on Earth. I was a bit disappointed by this country, I expected more from what I heard or read.
It just has a good reputation and that tricked me into coming here. |
