I apologise for the remarks made that Australia is a subsidiary country of England and not a proper country. I am English and do not associate myself with these comments. I think Australia is a great country

I apologise on behalf of your spineless apology. By doing so you are attempting to deny the truth of the matter that, as one of the more intelligent and eloquent posters, above, has put it, Australia is a subsidiary company of Great Britain.

Your feeble and erroneous apology renders you both ineffectual and cowardly.

I think the royalty is the most pathetic form of leadership! All the royals have to do is be BORN!!! It's shameful that Australia must follow such pathetic injustices!!!

I am sure they are all extremely honoured and grateful that the English public are sharing the most important woman in the world with them.

Their association to our country does them nothing but benefit them enormously.

The majority of the population don't mind too much either way, most would prefer a republic, but for many people it's not a terribly pressing issue. A change to a republic would be mainly symbolic, rather than having any genuine practical effect (depending of course on how the republic was set up, and that is what Aussies are having trouble agreeing on).

English
With the Queen as their leader, it's almost as if Australia were a proper country. Nearly there, Aussies!

The Queen has done nothing to make Australia what it is today instead its the people who make Australia the place it is today.

Daisy
From the people I know and what i have seen I haven't really heard anyone talk about it ( but this is coming from an 18 year olds perspective). People do complain about having the Union Jack on the flag though.

Welcome To England
Rule Britannia!

The Aussies love that they have the Queen of England as their monarch. It's like they're a subsidiary country of us.

Edit added 30.10.08:
Why are you arguing with everyone? If you don't agree with their opinion why ask for it in the first place?
This is a questions / answers forum where people are entitled to an opinion - one which may differ to yours. If you don't like it, common sense tells you not to ask a question in the first instance; a child can see that concept. Pity you can't, small man. Now argue back with me as much as you like (after all, you have with almost everyone else) but I shan't be checking back here so I won't get to read your vitriol, small man.

Well, from someone who can and often does live at either end I would say assuredly that ol' liz ain't popular at all with the australians, and I applaud them for that. Still without this situation the asians would rule and run the place, not that it would be a bad thing I hasten to add, the present asian communities contribute greatly to australia. The eleven years with Bush's a ss rag Howard as PM did australia a lot of lasting damage and that curse has finally gone. But no, the queen is not admired by most aussies. Charlie is too much of a 'nancy' for australian adulation full stop.
Few ever give the indigenous australians a decent political shout you notice.

J J
The polls show most australians want a republic. And the dolt who said australia is a subsidiary country of britain, how more deluded can you get. Britain has nothing to do with us, we're an asia pacific nation with america as our major ally.

The queen is the enemy of Australia. She needs to go.

She is everything Australians are not (stuck up, snobby, elitist). She got the job because of her family, not because of merit.

She actively promotes foreign (i.e. English) goods at trade fairs over Australian goods. She cares more about England than Australia. She should be tried for treason.

Her role is unconstitutional. She is the head of a church and we separate Church and State in our constitution.

We will have a Republic one day soon but people are too scared to offend the queen so they simply say "wait until she dies". Let's hope that's real soon.

Ozmaniac
I loathe her and all of her awful family and everything she and they stand for.

There is a huge and growing Republican movement here and I'm confident that we will finally rid ourselves of the foreign monarch within the next decade.

EDIT:
Hey She Who Is, the referendum wasn't 'soundly rejected'. The national vote went 55% to 45% and if only 5% of people had voted the other way in NSW, WA, Vic and SA, it would have passed. You can see from my comment that I'm a rabid republican but I voted NO because I (along with a sizeable % of other people) want a real republic rather than one with an appointed figurehead.
Also, if anyone thinks she doesn't interfere with us and has no influence, they were obviously not around in 1975 when she sacked our legally and democratically elected government.

shadow
i would say yes and no to the movement. but im happy for the queen i think she has a role to play and she plays it well charles is a upstanding and respectful gentlemen in my book i think most are jealous. get rid of government. god save the queen and go hard, will and harry

I don't care that we have a queen she is just a figure head. If the Monarchy ever starts to enforce rules upon us the maybe people would consider a republic but other than that people just don't care.
We had a vote a while back as to becoming a republic we I’m pretty sure it didn't get much support. Monarchy works fine for us If it ain’t broke don't fix it

You are really offensive about the Queen saying, I hope she dies. We have always had Royalty which is far better than having one of these Politicians rulling the roost. We have enough of their antics in Westminster without letting them live in the Palace. Our lives would not be worth living with that lot.You do not sound old enough to pass your opinion on something like that, so if I was you I would be very careful what you say, otherwise we will put you in the Tower.
