Australians... why do you end your sentences with 'BUT" hehe?

I am Australian but have been living in South African, the USA and now New Zealand for most of my life. I'm currently in Adeladie on holiday and couldn't help noticing that Australians say but at the end of their sentences. EG. Today I went to the shops and a lady was like "the weather is pretty good but". What does that even mean?
Additional Details
Sorry for not being Politically correct, Mel.

Why is it that SOME Australians end their sentences in 'But'?

I'm just saying that no New Zealanders I know back home say it. Aussies are the only people I know who say it.

I'm sure that's not just an Australian thing.but
Pretty sure a lot of people over the world have a habit of ending their sentence with it.but

cc_of_0z
Maybe that is a South Australian thing. I've noticed the Queenslanders seem to finish all their sentences with "eh?".

"The weather is pretty good, eh?"
"That movie was excellent, eh?"

It's kind of the same as "though"
as in, "the weather is pretty good though".
I say it, and I'm from Perth.

Ok so because one lady said 'but' at the end of her sentence, that means EVERY Australian does now.. Man I am insulted that you are an Australian, thank god you don't live here with that ignorance.

I NEVER end my sentences with 'but', as pointed out some people will end it with 'eh', others with 'hey' which all basically mean' though'.

But seriously, you need to learn not to generalise an entire country based on one or two people.

Elizabeth
I know some people do, I don't and nor does anyone I know.

You seem to be making a wild generalisation about your fellow Australians.
Why do you end a question with hehe?

Cecil
Its a bit unfair to pass judgement on Australia on the basis of a visit to Adelaide. as an Australian you should of known they speak funny. your accent sounds very Kiwi......

hey hey hey

umm i have never noticed it.
maybe they were trying to remember what they were going to say.
hmm im not sure.
maybe we just put it on?
lol

I live in Adelaide and I hardly ever hear it. I'm pretty sure it is an east coast thing.
