If you like the sea and the coral reefs then go to Cairns
If you like Nature and nature walks then go to Darwin and see Kakadu and all the National parks.

There are just too many great places in Australia to choose from!
Perth is lovely - as is the whole of Western Australia. If you are planning on exploring, WA is beautiful but very spread out. But i suppose that's good if your up for a bit of adventure and driving? On the west coast i recommend Monkey Mia - where despite the name, dolphins swim right up close to the shore every morning! Broome is also great.
Sydney is a great city and that's a good place to go if you are a 'touristy' type person as there is lots of sight seeing and things to do and places to eat and drink.
Melbourne is a bit arty farty but nice.
Adelaide is good if you like wineries!!
Depends how long your there really!
The most common travels route is along the east coast from Sydney to Cairns.
I recommend the Australia lonely planet book to help you make your mind up!
Have a great trip!

Try the hunter valley and lake macquarie areas near newcastle. Fantastic weather in spring summerand autumn and reasonable in winter. Best beaches in the world, vinyards, laid back life style and friendly people. City life and country life all within about an hour of each other. Great for singles or families, something for everyone.

I loved Sydney - you have to go there!

If you want to see a big contrast in Australian cities, you could visit Darwin or Alice Springs. They are much different to the other cities, but also cost a bit more to travel to.

Sydney and Melbourne would be great to see. Also Gold Coast and Brisbane are great.

Gee - Perth good, Sydney Good, Gold Coast very good.

Depends what you are after and how far you are prepared to travel.

For instance going from Sydney to the Gold Coast will take your more than 24 hours if you go by coach.

It takes 8 hours flying from Sydney to Perth - choice is yours.

Perth's a nice place but it's very isolated from the rest of Australia and the amazing places over on the east coast.

Sydney is definitely worth a visit and a stay of a few days. Melbourne is also worth a few days, but if you head right up to the tropical north, that's where you'll find the really unforgettable places. Don't leave Australia without snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef; visit the tropical islands south from Cairns; see the tropical rainforest; ride on the Kuranda Railway; go whitewater rafting - there's an endless list and no matter when you go, it will be warm enough to do everything.

If you have time, fly to Darwin which is an absolutely unique city and from there, visit the Kakadu National Park - it's breathtaking.

i only went there once but i went for a fortnight in sydney and a fortnight in cairns.... i thought it was the perfect holiday. a nice city break followed by the most wonderous natural experience (great barrier reef) that i could ever hope to have.
