Very safe I would say! Much safer than some other cities and places I know of in Australia! You may get some robbery of cars and houses in some suburbs at times - like a phase... but not all suburbs. Stay away from Inala and Fortitude Valley! But as far as guns and bad violence not really at all. Just avoid the Gold Coast on nights! The Gold Coast can get violent around the pubs/nightclubs but thats not Brisbane! BTW I love the Gold Coast during the day that is!

Doesnt rain to much except this summer season it has! Which everyone in Brisbane is finding a bit odd!!

I love Brisbane its a City but not a fast paced one! Like a country pace but its certainly not country but a nice city with lovely suburbs around the CBD. Just layed back and relaxed people for the most part!

Check out www.ourbrisbane.com.au

If you find it to hot here you may need to later move more south! Queensland is known as the Sunshine State!

One thing you need to know is that we are short on water at the moment so water usage has to be done sparingly! No problem if you install a water tank or just have appropriate length showers and not water your garden all day!

Regarding your other question regarding creepy crawlies (yes I scower the boards! lol esp on Australia!) - you will get hunstmans here - they are big spiders but they usually hide or run from you! You may get one or two a year unless your in a bushy part of Australia. If they bite you you dont die just sore in that area and maybe some inflammation. Redbacks are common in many areas - not just Brisbane - some places have them lots some none at all! Your neighbor may have them in their yard and yet you may have none! Or one side of the road may and the other side not! You just need to recognize what Redback spiders are and spray your yard if you ever see them - check under bikes, chairs, outside toys as thats where they like to stay and under stairs etc. They can cause serious pain and or (very very rarely not sure if anyone died this year from them or not) but they can cause death I think. But in all my years here I have only seen one and Im in the bush! Cane toads are everywhere but they are good as they eat snakes but others see them as pests. Just dont pick them up! Dont let animals lick them as animals can die. They cant kill humans unless you eat a few! lol No one has died from Cane toads! Just animals can - if you get a pet and the pet licks one it will foam at the mouth - you have to wash its gums with water straight away to get the poison of the gums as thats where it stays and causes them to eventually go into paralysis - I had to save my cat once by doing this! Occasionally some people may get a snake in their yard or house in the suburbs but very very rare and if you see one you just call a snake catcher or wildlife person. But the chances are you wont see or get one. These pests are all over Australia not just Brisbane so where ever you go these are the ones to watch out for! But you will be fine no one dies from them!! If they do it has been a very very rare case.

I am a born and bred Brisbanite and LOVE it here.
I am rasing my family here.
There is something for everyone.

It is safe (usual common sense applies). There are better areas and it is a good idea to talk to people who live here before you decide on a suburb.

Close to the river or the bay is perfect to survive the hot summers, but you will pay for thayt luxury. I prefer the southside to the north (close to everything) but there are great suburbs in both.

The western suburbs are growing every day places like Forest Lake are realy setting up for families

Personally, I'd recommend Yeronga, Moorooka, Tarragindi, Holland Park if you home budget starts in the $450 thousand and if you want to get started for less than that look at places in Logan like Springwood, Tanah Merah and Shailer Park where you can still pick up a good home with a pool and lots of room for the kids for $350,000

We are in the middle of a drought so rain has not been huge in the last few years. We have rainy weeks but it is the big dramatic thunderstoms at the end of a hot summers day that I just love!!

Have a happy move. Queensland is great!!

Wonderful place to live !! Unfortuantly it doesnt rain much but it has started to lately and this is really exciting as we are on level 5 water restrictions. Very safe in the western suburbs and mostly anywhere to be honest.

Brisbane Guy
Yes Brisbane is a safe place to live. Like all cities there are some areas that should be avoided late at night (Fortitude Valley nr the city, Woodridge & Kingston in the southern suburbs) but on the whole there are no real problems. I have lived in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth & Melbourne and Brisbane is tops if you want a laid back life style though as a previous posting alluded too, we are experincing growing pains and we are in the middle of the worst drout in 100 years.

Jaderade.
I find Brisbane to be fairly safe. I'm only a teenager myself and often go to the city or otherwise on my own or with friends, and I've never felt threatened or concerned that the area isn't safe and there's always plenty to do, although it can get very busy so if you prefer a quieter atmosphere you may want to avoid living directly in the city.

At the moment it's been raining on and off, but usually it is very sunny, which also means it's hot and quite humid here.

I hope that helps :)

i will be blunt. i live one hour from brisbane on the sunshine coast. while there are great things to do..there are these issues.

fastest growing city in Australia, top 5 of the fastest growing cities in the world

drinking water shortage (not much rain)

traffic CHAOS every morning

run down health system

thats thee few minor things...plus housing price is throught the roof....but please dont get me wrong, it is a great place to be as well. south bank is great, there are lots of sports to floow, lots of parks and playgrounds and only a couple of hours to some of the best parts of eastern australia.
