Brisbane,Australia.... Is the humidity very bad or is the weather nice to live in, in general?

Wow! Lots of prejudices coming out in these answers. Even an opinion from someone who was in Brisbane 20 years ago and found it humid.

You will find that all of your nominated cities have 'fors and againsts' weather-wise. I lived in the inner-city of Brisbane (West End) for 20 years. Sure, over Dec/Feb it's hott, high 20s up to mid 30s - it's a sub-tropical city after all, similarly you'd expect Melbourne to be bloody cold in winter with the winds whistling in from Antarctica.

Other major centres of Aust have their own problems; extended heat waves, erratic weather patterns, frigid winters, dust storms, fly plagues and so on.

Suggestion: before buying real estate or setting up business or whatever you're doing, have a 2 week holiday in each city.

I lived in Perth for two years. In high summer (end Jan/beginning of Feb) the temps can get up to 45C which is nasty. Although the heat is dry, it can get very uncomfortable if the evening sea-breeze doesn't kick in (and very often it doesn't) - then the buildings absorb the heat and it gets even hotter the next day. Just occasionally you can get a humid, hot wind blowing too, which is horrid.

Also, check the map - Perth is extremely isolated and many of its residents have never been to the east coast, which can make them insular in their attitudes. Having said all that, Perth is a beautiful and welcoming city and the southwest of WA is wonderful.

Melbourne's weather can be horrible - often cold and rainy in winter, too stinking hot in summer. But their cultural scene is great.

I've only once visited Brisbane, it was in October (spring) and it was steaming hot, very uncomfortable. I live in the area that officially has the best climate in Australia, Coffs Harbour (NSW mid north coast, halfway between Sydney and Bris). The climate certainly is close to perfect (lots of rain so no debilitating drought, never too hot in summer or too cold in winter) and the lifestyle is wonderful, but the downside is very high unemployment and high consumer prices generally.

Nowhere's perfect! It all depends on what factors are important to you. Take your pick and good luck.

I was in Queensland in 89 and found the humidity unbearable. It was so bad for me that I only ventured out into an air coditioned cab, from the cab to an air conditioned venue. I have also lived in Perth and found the climate there much more user friendly. Dry heat. Perth is a lovely city with plenty of opportunities for a new comer.

YES for a couple of months mainly January and February can be very bloody uncomfortable having said that our weather for the rest of the year more than makes up for it. We have some of the best beaches in the world at our doorstep and you can go for a drive on the weekends to places like Mt Tambourine or O'Reilly's and the Temp drops about 5-10 degrees. Never been to perth and don't know anyone there. Melbourne i've visited and i have a dozen friends there and from what they tell me if it wasn't for their jobs they would move back to Brisbane

I really dont think it is humid...i think the weather is fine actually, i quite like it there

Perth is known for being a great family oriented city mostly suburban with many things to do and see. saying that they also have a big city center and growing. with many restaurants and cafes. the beaches on the west coast are the best in Australia and is equal for being the sunniest city in the world. not just Perth is great, it is all up and down the coast, in the south west of w.a, further north in w.a the hotter it gets.
its currently winter - and 19 degrees celcuis, but christmas day last year was 45 degrees Celsius. boy was that hot!!

i would say Perth!
but if i didn't live in western Australian my next choose would be South Australian (Adelaide) or QLD (Brisbane)

it depends where you are moving from. if you currently live in florida, for example, you probably won't find the humidity too unbearable but if you currently live in the uk you may find that the humidity is quite challenging for 9 months of the year

Christmas time in Brisbane is very HOT. Unless you have air conditioning or a pool (or know someone who has these necessary accessories) you may find Christmas rather uncomfortable. It remains HOT from January through February.

Luckily, as already mentioned, Brisbane is in the middle of two great coastal locations i.e. the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. Both have great beaches and plenty of places to cool off.

Brisbane has perfect weather for all the other months. Lovely sunshine and only a few weeks of chilly weather in mid July.

Brisbane is a great city for young families and raising children.

for a few months of the year it can get pretty humid(not every day)but the weather is great all year long

I've lived in Brisbane area for a few years now, but I live on the Bayside, so it isn't as bad as I found it when inland.

The humidity doesn't bother me that much these days, it is better than when I first came here, to a different part of Brisbane where it gets hotter, I am not very keen on the hotter and more humid parts.

Research carefully the different "parts" of Brisbane.
