Brisbane - capital of allergies?

I was planning to move to BRisbane but a friend who visited there told me it is considered the capital of allergies because of a pollen problem. Is this true? He recommends Sydney saying it has better weather and better jobs, and less allergy related problems. Can someone confirm if this is true? Thanks a tonne

I've lived in Brisbane since 1974 and have never heard such a thing.

What a load of Crap! have you seen the smog in Sydney? and pollen is pollen, ie if it blooms who the hell are we to complain, squirt something up your nose and stop listening to people who wouldn't have a bloody clue. Did your friend tell you that Sydney is jam packed, really really expensive, smoggy, shitty and you never ever sleep without hearing a Siren, or Brisbane is grass around the outside of your house, park close, kids in hats, not as cosmopolitan and a bit cheaper, local paper thrown on the yard twice a week? Nah, bet he left that bit out, you know us in Brisbane, half way between the Gold Coast (south of it is better) and the Sunshine Coast, Noosa, etc etc Fraser Island........

aflumpire
was your friend drunk at the time??

Brisbane is considered in a sub-tropical environment so there is more flora and wildlife around....but to say that its an allergy city....pffft!

sydney is generally cold, gloomy and overpopulated!

Sydney better weather? He must be kidding - unless he thinks raining is good weather. Brisbane has warm summers and mild winters - it never gets too cold. Only drawback is the humidity in summer. I've never heard the allergy capital thing. I've lived all over Eastern Aus and Brissie is one of my favorite spots to live (less interesting for visitors though apart from being near the coast) and to my knowledge hasn't got extra allergy problems.

That's very odd. I've never heard that. Brisbane is more of a country city than Sydney, and is less polluted due to not being as built up, which I would think can only be a good thing.
I've lived in both, and I love everything about Brisbane. It's beautiful weather, lovely people, good job opportunities, nice places to live close to the city etc etc etc.
I've always found Sydney to be full of crazy people...
Although, to be honest, questions like these are usually only answered by very biased Queenslanders or New South Welshman. Heheh...
But honestly, I've suffered allergies my whole life and lived in almost every major city with no noticeable difference at all...
Best of luck to you!

Lived here for 15 years and never had problem with pollen.
As for better weather? Here in Brisbane the weather is relatively good not too cold in winter and not too hot in summer. If you want to you can swim all year around.Rent and house prices are cheaper compared to Sydney.I mean there must be a reason as to why Sydney people move to Brisbane.
However,Brisbane is getting over crowded and we seriously have to move out to the suburbs.

Sounds like a lot of nonsense to me. I've lived in Sydney and Brisbane and neither seems more or less prone to pollen allergies. And if like a warmer climate, Brisbane wins over Sydney any day.

i have lived in brissy for near 30 years never heard that or noticed

earthmother
I had more allergy problems in Sydney, than what I have ever had up hear. Different allergens for different folks.
