Buy a snorkelling set. From where - sydney or townsville?

hi,
am planning to go to do some snorkeling in the outer barrier reefs in townsville and cairns.
Could you please advice if i would get better stuff at comparatively lower prices at townsville rather than sydney?
Also, are equipment available for hire in townsville and cairns?
i am currently based out of sydney.

cheers,
dimitry

I would hire in Townsville as the gear can be heavy. It wont cost you much

It would probably be cheaper to buy your stuff in Sydney rather than Townsville,,things tend to be a lot dearer up here,,but yeah you can hire stuff as well.

I would say buy it in Townswille as there are a lot of diving shops that you can buy from.Equipment is available for hire in both Townsville and Cairns. However,I rather have my own snorkel etc for hygiene reasons. Also, the equipment for hire is usually not really good quality.A snorkelling set would cost you about $100-120 including fins and snorkels. It depends on the quality that you want. Also, you may want to to hire a wetsuit to protect you from coral cuts.

Equipment is available for hire, and all the boats taking you will link you and you will PAY!
I would by from a dive shop, or rebel sports, they have a broad range, and staff usually experienced in area.
If you want cheap and cheap is what you get, Bargain dollar shops, clearance houses, even pawn/ 2nd hand have them. BUT once you have dived up there you will return, so invest and rest!

Buy before you go, to get used to stuff, at a local pool or even the bath!
You will set your equipment up, to be secure, and named it so it doesn't get nicked. This leaves you ready to leap in that lovely warm blue water end enjoy! and never waste a moment fiddling with gear so it doesn't leak and you feel comfortable.
Don't forget Flippers and "keepers/Stays" to hold them on secure.(Surf Shops)And sunscreen, you will burn in the water, and you don't want that to slow down your fun! Lots of bottled fluids, 'cos tour never have enough food and fluids. Decent breakfast everyday. Get a light bag with draw string to carry the gear in, Like a nylon sleeping bag "bag." Always wash and dry thoroughly in fresh water after each use. And store With rubbery/nylon bit separated, if putting away while saving for next trip!

The closer the shop to a tourist area, the higher the price.

I am very jealous! Have a great time !
