Buying a present for our friends who are emigrating to Australia, preferably something small?

Some family friends are emigrating to Australia next Wednesday, and we'd like to get them a present, something that they could all use (two adults, 16 year old girl, twelve year old boy) but something that they could take with them, as they've already had to leave behind quite a lot of their belongings. Thanks in advance :D

I agree with the answers that suggest a group photo of family and friends from the 'old country', it acts as a reminder of people that will no longer be nearby.

The best thing that you can do though is to keep in contact with them after they've arrived. I emmigrated to Australia thirty odd years ago, and it was very difficult to leave the people and 'things' that I was familiar with behind. The thing that keeps you going until you settle in properly is the contact from familiar people, that keep you informed about what is going on back home. You find yourself swapping information and soon the unfamiliar will become part of your daily life.
That's when you try to persuade your old friends to come here and experience for themselves how fantastic this country really is.

The kids will settle quickly once they make friends at school, and the adults need to be social to grow a group of friends.
Where are they moving to?

A really nice family picture in a frame.

A digital photo frame that you've already loaded with photos of their house, neighbours, friends and neighbourhood

bails
Get a photo taken of you all and frame it.

This may seem silly but when my cousins moved back to our hometown brisbane in australia we gave them dairy chocolate and silly things like marmite because they dont have that over there!

When our friends leave our community we get a frame and make a collage of all of our friends and places we used to frequent (restaurants, schools etc) and then we all sign the back.

Dorling Kindersly has great travel guides. We get one every time we move or travel to a new country. They are great for learning about special customs, great restaurants and activities and places to visit during vacation. They also have helpful emergency info and maps. They can read about it on their way there.

You could also get them a book on the history of Australia or something written by a famous Aussie.

Another thing you might give them is something to remind them of their home county. A favourite BBQ sauce, condiment or treat that will not be available to them there.

If it's just a small thing, I suggest you indoor plant or flower pot.
