Realist
are you kinda deranged or totally barking mad.

Don't be scared. Independent travel is much more fulfilling than tagging around with someone else. I felt the same way as you did before I went to the UK. No one would go with me, so rather than miss out I organized some accommodation before I left Australia for a few days so I could get my bearings when I arrived. I also intentionally hung out with backpackers before I left Australia so I would understand the mentality. Don't all the Aussies hang out in Earls Court? Can you spend a few nights at the local pub and try to meet some? That way you can get addresses and visit them when you come over. Or find out from your local Youth Hostel where Aussies hang out in your town.

But I am so glad I travelled alone - it was character building and I met hundreds of people. Just take your Lonely Planet Guide and have a rough itinerary of what you want to do. And always remember there are hundreds of people feeling the same way you are and are doing the same trip. You are bound to meet them at a backpackers and so you can stick together then.

Mystery
you sound scary

Sorry, mate. I'm moving there with my fiance and there's only room for us!
You'd find it tricky to prove to the authorities that you'd be worth granting a visa unless you have a skilled trade to offer or family in Australia. For an visa you apply for, it's expensive (we're talking £600+ for the visa alone, you have to do health checks £200 and have several things certified copied) and lengthy.

Moving to Australia?
not as simple as packing a bag grabbing a travel mate and moving to Australia, holiday yeah but not to live.
you would not believe the conditions you must meet to qualify to immigrate to Australia

i would but i don't think my other half would be too pleased eh.
don't worry.....i know that many people travel by themselves.
you can do it

jennifer h
What are you scared of. We are a friendly nation. You'll meet up with heaps of people at the backpackers. Give it a go . be independent for a while. You'll love it.
