the East coast between Cairns and Sydney can be quite boozy but not all hostels have bars so you can escape it if you want.
There are backpackers of all ages though in Australia as it's so easy to get around.
Try looking at hostels here http://www.thetravellerslounge.co.uk/accomm/hostels.htm |

age fine
www.bugaustraila.com for hostels
VERY IMPORTANT BEFORE YOU GO.
MULTIPLE BANK ACCOUNTS IDEALLY WITH NATIONWIDE AND GET MULTIPLE VISA DEBIT CARDS
LEAVE ONE IN YOUR STATIC POST BOX, ONE IN WALLET, ONE IN THE SAFE AT HOSTEL.
And ideally another spare.
they take a month to replace and bear in mind you are travelling.
you see you cant get any visa debit cards in aus and withtou one cant book anything or buy anythign like plane tickets over the net or phone.
So if you loose one... you use the net to transfer cash from one account to the other... and leave at least one account as a joint account with parents
makes money transerfers and sorting out bank stuff easy.
Also travel insurance... mak sure you pay the extra bit so NO EXCESS... £40 is almost a weeks rente in hostels and what it cost to see a doctor.
Funny enough what the excess is
Get experience in bar work/waitoring/fork lift and other building site skills which you need for jobs
Dont get trapped in scummy kings cross in sydney or you ned up wasting trip getting pissed and stoned with brits.
Dont book a package of activities as you usually can get them cheaper at the location. or win one in a bar game.
note certain backpacker travel agent s have free internet to intice you in... use it.
In sydney get your groceries from paddies market for 1/3 of price... go with others to buy in bulk and split it.
Careful around darling harbour... you get gangs mugging backpackers there.
Go via thailand and make sure you go here
www.tigertemple.org
Yes you get to play with tigers...sober ones that have been well treated. Helps to know which one is which. Insist on meters in taxis and no tuk tuks. Avoid 'ping pong ball sex show' bars unless you want to be held there till you caugh a load of cash to scarey bouncers.... regaulr gogo bars are fine.
And learn to scuba dive there in prep for barrier reef trips in aus
From sydney to byron bay
andos outback tour for that real aussie adventure
and if with oz experience which never waits for you... make damn sure you go on the Dingo helicopter flight... below treetop level, full speed like a dogfight.
The gold coast canals are full of bull sharks which bite on sight
Airlie beach expect a good $400 for a yacht trip avoid the cheap ones...
ie Avatar the trimaran looks good.
Bundaberg fruit picking is a rip off dont bother |

At 25 you are too old for primary school but that's about it. Most backpackers would be around your age but I have seen 50 year olds doing it. There are probably 80 year old backpackers too. You are never too old.
There are plenty of backpacker sites to help you and a lot of information at hostels around the country. Be flexible. There might be specific things you want to see such as the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade on March 1st, or Henley-on-Todd at Alice Springs on 30th August or the Birdsville Races on 5/6th September so mark these fixed points in your diary but be prepared to take advantage of things as they come along, don't stick to a prearranged program for your entire stay. |

I agree that you're never too old to backpack! I was doing it around Australia when I was 21 and I was on the younger side of a lot of the people I met while I was there. I recommend not relying too much on travel guides, but make sure you do your research to find out where you want to go. And talk to a lot of people to see where they've been. Be flexible in your schedule. Also make sure you visit Lake Mackenzie on Fraser Island that was my favorite part of the trip (that place, Byron Bay, and the outback trip were all really cool).
You should definitely go: you will have an amazing time guaranteed! |

you are never to old to backpack!! Australia has lots of hostels , so don't worry about that. Just go with the flow and see where you end up, if i was you don't book ahead cause you bump into so many different backpackers and they might tell you other places to go to. Have fun |
