Taken from Australian Government's, Department of Immigration and Citizenship website;

"If you have had any criminal convictions in any country, you may wish to consider applying for a Tourist visa (subclass 676), rather than an ETA. If arriving on an ETA with criminal convictions, you could be refused entry into Australia."

FFS what's with the names?
No, you cannot. ETA Visas are not available to people with criminal convictions. (See the FAQs on the link below.)

The fact that 200 years ago people were transported to this country as prisoners does not apply to modern immigration law.

If you wish to travel to Australia, you must go to the nearest Australian Embassy and apply for an ordinary visa.

Cheers :-)

hello,
A person will fail the character test where:

* they have a substantial criminal record
* they have, or have had, an association with an individual, group or organisation suspected of having been, or being, involved in criminal conduct
* having regard to the person's past and present criminal conduct, the person is found not to be of good character
* having regard to the person's past and present general conduct, the person is found to be not of good character
* there is a significant risk that the person will engage in criminal conduct in Australia, harass, molest, intimidate or stalk another person in Australia, vilify a segment of the Australian community, or incite discord in the Australian community or in a segment of that community, or represent a danger to the Australian community or a segment of that community.

on an eta? whats eta
NO WE DO NOT want terrorist in australia. Its the self large island in the world protected with entering gates all around the coast line. You need a visa to enter. or you will end up with the rest of the imigrants on the west side of australia in the middle of australia where the desert is... quite hot there just red dirt.. and a large imigrant prison.

If you have criminal record.. the travling agency has you as a record on all computers where ever you go.. When the police arest you years ago or whatever you did.. it is all kept in the international history when ever you flight to a country either its today or next year or 10 years time or such.. they now about you. and you would be closly be watch indeed depends what kind of criminal person you are. I sure wouldnt want my kids near a criminal convict from another country entering the australian gates on airports.
