no such thing as a koala bear
it is just koala, and normally they don't drink at all
they get moisture from leaves. The one you probably saw drinking was doing so because he was dehydrated from the fire |

They could - but i don't think they would be let into most pubs due to lack of footwear and apropriate ID! It would also cause them to fall out of their trees a lot.... Sorry. It's quite late here and the sense of humour deteriorates somewhat!
I loved that video of the firey giving the Koala some of his water from the bottle. It's funny how animals seem to sense when they are and are not going to get hurt. There are a few images of this disaster that will stick in the mind, and that is one of the more pleasant ones!!
Everyone has said it before me, Koalas get their moisture from the leaves that they eat (did I read somewhere that Eucalyptus leaves are poisonous or they have a drug like effect on most other creatures??) but since their trees have been destroyed, they will drink water wherever they can get it. And that may prove fatal to them as i saw on tv tonight that the effects of a bushfire on water can causes the water to become highly toxic!! |

Yes, koalas can drink water but they usually prefer to get moisture from eucalyptus leaves.
After being through a bushfire there are no leaves and no moisture and the koalas and other native animals soon dehydrate and drink what ever water is available.
The koala in the video was dehydrated, in shock and had quite severe burns. The wildlife officers say it may be 8 months before she is fully recovered and can be released back into the wild.
The fireman was not calling her a koala bear.
All Aussies know they are not bears.
It was a play on words "How much can a koala, bear?"
It's a line from a piece called Australiana by Austen Tayshus. |

It is a Koala, no relation to bears at all, its a marsupial.
Koalas normally get all the food and drink they need from Eucalyptus leaves. Because the Koala you are referring to was found in an area that fire had just been through the leaves and trees were gone. Because of the excess heat as well he was left rather dehydrated.
This is the only reason it drank water, do NOT go up to one and try and give it a drink. |

Koalas are not bears, they are marsupials. And yes, they can drink.
Because koalas live on gum leaves, they get a lot of moisture in their diet. However, in hot conditions, they will actively seek out water and drink readily.
Sam (actually Samantha) the koala, pictured with CFA volunteer firefighter David Tree, was extremely dehydrated. In those situations, koalas will drink water. |

yes, normally koala bears do not drink water as they get enough moisture from the leaves they eat, but because of the bush fire and trauma in Victoria they are drinking water |

Their not Koala bears... they are just koalas. They are of no relation to bears at all. Anyway yes but usually get all the moisture they need out of the eucalypt leaves that they live on. |

It is a myth that they never drink (water that is), but they can go long periods of time without having to get water and get it only from the food they eat.
"The koala gets its name from an ancient Aboriginal word meaning "no drink" because it receives over 90% of its hydration from the Eucalyptus leaves (also known as gum leaves) it eats, and only drinks when ill or times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves. ie during droughts etc." |

There is a person here that keeps copying other peoples material and then claiming it to be his own. He has does this for most of his answers.
"Koalas aren't bears as many people are led to believe. They aren't even related to bears. The koala is related to the kangaroo and the wombat. The koala is a mammal. The reason the koala is called a koala bear is because the koala looks like a teddy bear. The koala's scientific name is Phasclarctos cinereus."
