You can bring some food in. Declare it, show it to the quarantine people and expect to have it confiscated. Anything that gets through quarantine will be a bonus. There is no way any unprocessed food will get through. No meat (including salami), no eggs, no fruit and no dairy is a good start but there are lots of other prohibited items. You will not get anything through by trying to hide it - the quarantine sniffer dogs are VERY good at detecting food.

http://www.aqis.gov.au is the quarantine service site - customs are not the relevant agency. http://www.daffa.gov.au/aqis/import/food is the page.

Australia has very strict quantine laws, very little is allowed to be bought into the country. Any foods that you think you might miss while in Oz can probably be purchased there. Australia has a diverse range of crusines you can get almost everything there.

no. It will be confiscated at customs, unless it is in a vaccum sealed bags. Check with Customs to see what is allowed.

Don't ever believe a single word what some of the people have already answered.

FOOD IS NOT ALLOWED TO BRING INTO AUSTRALIA!!!

No products of meat, fruits, nuts, vegetables, dairy, eggs, seed, plants and wooden products.

If you do and the customs find out you'll get punished!

I know that because I've got a friend at the Melbourne customs who told me all that.

Good question
I don't have any real expertise in this area but PLEASE don't bring any food or natural organisms like timber plants animal products into this beautiful country. We are lucky to be an island continent not ravaged by diseases like foot and mouth and rabies to mention a few. Recently we had a outbreak of "horse flu" and it cost the horse industry millions. You will be welcome here but it would be best if you didn't bring any food here even if its vacuumed sealed sterilised etc. you never really know what it may contain.

hallo,
to Australia you can bring:
AU.$900 worth of goods (AU.$450 for people under 18 and both air and sea crew members ) including gifts (given to you or intended for others).
Alcohol and tobacco products cannot be included in this concession.
2.25 liters of alcoholic beverages for each passenger aged 18 years+.
250 cigarettes, or 250 grams of cigars or tobacco products for each passenger aged 18 years or over. One opened packet containing 25 cigarettes or less is also allowed.
You can pool your duty free concessions if you are a family traveling together.

food can be brought but only a reasonable amount for personal use.

tuppenybitz
only if it is in store bought packaging even then some foods are not allowed, check out the customs website

yeah sure as long as you DECLARE it then if they think it is unsuitable they take it away
but make sure you declare it because if you dont and they find it, they will fine you like $200
and i think as long as it is in a sealed jar and packaging it is usually fine

mmdjaajl
some food is allowed
Customs web-site will tell you what you cant bring into Australia

CutiexBoots
not really. You have to run it throught customs, make sure you know whats allowed and everything..
But I live in australia and really the food isnt THAT bad, lol we probably have a lot of the things you do back home.

And while your at it could you help answer my question?
