You're best off talking to the folks at the Australian embassy.
However, the Australian Government have severely cut back on the amount of work visas they issue now, as during the recession they obviously don't want foreigners going over and taking jobs that Australians could do. It's hard enough to get a visa even if you're 100% clean, so I imagine with a criminal record you'd have next to no chance. |

I think it would depend on the severity of the record. The Australian Embassy will be able to help you. |

It depends on the crime. I personally know 2 people who have been jailed in the UK for minor offences and have gained Australian citizenship. I'd say they'll look at each case individualldy to assess the risk the person poses to the Australian public. Just don't lie when filling out the forms. |

I dont think so. I wanted to go last year and from what I gathered, it all depends on who reviews the visa, but they are known for being strict compared to other countries. I have misdemeanor assault. I didnt even want to work, I just wanted to visit. I never even bothered applying though, it kind of ruined it for me. Oh well, Thailands more fun anyways. |

If you have been in jail for more than 12 consecutive months in the last 10 years; then you have a problem. |

To be granted this visa, you must meet character requirements.
With the Character and Penal Clearance Requirements you may be asked to provide police certificates for each country you have lived in for 12 months or more over the last ten (10) years since turning 16.
It really depends on what the crim-record is for. (was it just a record on your name, did you go to jail for it or just fined?) Something little you will be fine. If you have spent time in jail you won't be fine!

I went to Australia on an electronic travel authority visa in 2001. I have a conviction of possession of marijuana on my record from when I was 18 yrs old. They didn't keep me out. yet, that could be cause it's not the same as the visas you may have to file. |
