Can you get plane tickets that allow you to fly home at any point during a set period?

Sorry this question isn't exactly to the point, didn't know how to put it. I wanna go to Australia- am getting a 12 month working holiday visa but was wondering what to do about flight tickets. Do I have to have a specific return date? I thought there was something called an open ticket but searching on google doesn't show anything. Has anyone here used something like this? What was it called? Where did you get it from? Does this make any sense lol

Keep looking, I know you can, but can't help with details. Best phone up somewhere like Opodo or Expedia - they can be quite helpful.

you can get an open return ticket. main thing is to have left the country before your visa expires.

The more you pay the more flexible your options. A full fare ticket generally lets you travel at any time (subject to seat availability). Discounted tickets have restrictions.

If you go to the airline website, somewhere on it should be a summary of the restrictions.

One thing worth looking at is a round the world ticket. These can be cheaper than standard full fare, and can be quite flexible.

You can get an open ticket where you do not have to specify a return date. You can also get tickets where you specify the return date but can change the date later. The more flexibility you want, the more it will cost you. You need to go to a High Street travel agent as online agents will not offer tickets with this level of flexibility. You may also want to consider going out on a single ticket and buying another ticket when returning as it might work cheaper if the Australians do not check if you hold a return flight.

I forgot to add I tend to use The Flight Centre as my travel agent as they are pretty good. They may be able to help you.

If you're going from the UK a round the world ticket will work out best value and it is open for a year. You just ring the airline a couple of days before you are going to use the next leg.

Not many of the discounted airfares these days have the option for an "open" return date. What you generally have to do is book in a rough date for the return and then later on once you know your dates, then contact the airline and change it. I know that STA Travel has a special ticket that only costs USD35 to change anywhere in the world... If you go to a travel agent to book make sure you find out the exact conditions that apply to your airfare and how you go about changing it!

Buy a return ticket so within the 12 months period to go back, but you can change it anytime - Airlines will charge a fee and maybe a differance in airfare.
But least it will show you have a return ticket when you arrive.

Yes, you can get open tickets, you will need to search though -or get a travel agent on the case.

This is a good site for airline ticket discount promotional codes by the way: http://www.professional-web.co.uk/cheap-airline-flight-tickets.htm
