Can you travel to Australia on a one way ticket? |
If you have sufficient funds to buy a new ticket i.e £8,000.
Will be on a working holiday visa.
I have heard mixed accounts of whether this is possible. (i.e a few friends who said they actually did that but a number of websites that say you can't!) |

no you must show proof you have a return ticket unless on a working visa and some times you need one for them as well
have an open ticket |

You better go the website of any of the Australian embassys and ask them directly, they are pretty quick to answer.

I don't know what the current regulations are but I don't think they have changed since I went on a working holiday to Oz 10 years ago.
Back then, you only had to prove you had £2000 at the time you applied for the visa (the fact that you may have spent it between visa application and time of entry didn't seem to occur to anybody). I went to Oz on a one-way ticket. When entering Oz, nobody asked if I had a return flight ticket (or any ticket that showed I was leaving Oz). Nobody asked whether I had sufficient funds either. |

I did, and there were no questions asked. If you are asked, you should tell them that you got a really great deal on this ticket, and you'll get another one before your visa expires, no matter what your real purpose is for buying a one way ticket. This just covers you.
I had my friend who is a travel agent, standing by just in case I needed her to book a return ticket, but I did not. No problems at all.
And just to add, this was on a three month tourist holiday visa. |

If you have a work visa, then yes, you can generally travel to Aus. on a one-way visa. I say, generally, because, in cases where your visa is short-time bound, then the Aus. authorities will like to see your passage back home at the end of that period.
If this is a holiday visa, then no, you can't travel to Aus. on a one-way visa. |

I would buy a ticket from there anyway as the flights from oz back are usually more expensive. |

Customs will want to know why you have only a one way ticket, as they see this as an intention to stay illegally in Australia.
Be very careful as you may attract the wrong kind of attention.
You will be flagged as an immigration threat and may not be allowed to proceed further.
To be deported from Aust. is to have your passport stamped as such and a three year exclusion will apply.
E'er on the side of caution and get your return passage prior to going. |

Except for special circumstances, you need to have a return ticket. This way, you can't spend all your money while you're there and have no way back. |
