Could Australia deny you, if you wanted to move there? |
Could they? I am going to be a teacher, and want to move to Australia. Could they deny me? And why if they can |

Our immigration can deny you for various reasons. You first need to be in a skilled occupation, I'm pretty sure teaching would be counted but would depend on the subject. If you are ill or injured and could be a burden to society you could be denied. If you have a recent criminal history you can also be denied.
http://www.immi.gov.au has the legalities. |

Of course they could deny you if quotas have been filled; if you don't meet the required conditions for entry to Australia or if there is no longer a need for people in your occupation when you apply.
Australian immigration is restricted to people with skills, qualifications and experience that are needed here and applicants must also be of good character; must meet health requirements and have good English skills.
We badly need experienced secondary teachers in Australia and if you fit the bill, it's most unlikely that you will be denied a visa, but it's always up to our immigration authorities.
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/critical-skills-list.pdf (new priority list published only last week)
There is currently a lower identified need for other teachers and it's impossible to say what their prospects would be given the recent changes in our immigration priorities. Teaching (other than secondary) remains on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL) and experienced teachers are still eligible to apply for skilled immigration.

And to the person above who said "as they want to keep out people from less economically developed countries" That is completely untrue! Australian immigration is completely non-discriminatory and everyone who can meet the skill, experience; health; character and English competency requirements has an equal chance. Quotas are overall and are not specific to individual countries or cultures. |

We have the right to accept or deny anyone we wish , depending on whether or not you meet the criteria as set out by our immigration department.
When you have your teaching qualifications contact the department on the link below ....
Best of luck....

they can deny anyone they want
you need to be a skilled and experienced worker in an occupation australia needs
at the moment teachers are needed but that can change any time |

They are very tough to gt into.A friend of mine is a highly skilled professional and had to do reams of paperwork, medical exams ,polie and FBI backgrounf check, pay$$ etc.
Same with me...You should spend at least 6 months here before doing the whole nightmare. It took my friend 2 years nearly.
He almost likes it here for some reason but would not do it agin.Real state is 3 times what it shold be for what you get in a city area and the place is expensive in gneral.Lots of ridiculous laws ....
Unless your lif is really awful where you are I would really carefully look into the awful long process it requires. I would absolutly not do it again...Life is good for me here as I am very fortunate but the yucky parts are numerous here and almost need daly alcohol to make it bearable...
The koalas are cte and some lovely scenery but not much else. Like West virginia with sausages. Sorry W VA no offense...beautiful state but ....... |

You cannot be 'denied' if the law says you meet the various immigration criteria. It is law not a discretionary selection process. But you will be led to think that it is. Remember any refusal at any stage can immediately be appealed.
The australian immigration dept. make an enormous amount of errors in law. Any decision which is subject to error in law MUST legally be completely reviewed by an independent body of adjudicators based purely on facts not discretion. The appeals decisions are made by the Migration Review Tribunal based on what is termed balance of probabilities and such conclusions overstand any immigration decision.
As a teaching professional ask yourself this. What kind of government is running a land which consistently boasts itself as multicultural yet over emphasises a stipulation to speak english as part of their acceptance criteria ? What they really need are fluent multilinguals especially in the immigration dept. and the police force.
Remember up until the early 1970's australia still fought to keep their all white australians policy. Also look at how the indigenous people have been treated. And dont lose sight of the fact that you will have a valuable profession which is in demand and can be used in many other parts of the world. So do not ever feel you are going to australia ' on your knees ' to be accepted !
I can assure you that the successful obtaining of an australian visa is largely about knowing what to put in the boxes and how to pick out the many areas where the immigration dept. may and are very likely to have erred in law throughout their quite flawed often dogmatic application of their own procedures and policies.
The australian immigration dept. hate being challenged especially when it results in their defeat. There are hundreds of people who have been wrongly turned away from that land who mostly unknowingly are victims of injustice and illegal action.
I personally now have the life long satisfaction of having put DIMIA incompetents right back in their seat. I do have recognised skills but did not need to use that route entirely. The one I succeeded in was that of allowing the australian immigration dept. to make their errors due to their lack of attention to legal definition which won me my (second time) residency.
If you do want to live there go with your head held high !
Good Luck. |

Australia is a very clever country, they will not take the "dregs" of this world like other countrys do UK USA and others, they only want people who are going to help their country grow. And ofcourse they are "very selective" as to who those people will be. They`ve watched the other countrys have "huge" problems with immirgration and the cost to these countrys is colossal money wise, they`ve seen new arrivals go straight on to social / welfare and never come off of it, and watched the scams that these people bring with them and those countrys have never dealt with it and are going broke. Its not going to happen to "Australia" if they have anything to do with it....and you cant blame them.
Your teaching profesesion may well get you in , as thats the type of jobs they want to fill. (can they deny you) oh yes they can and will to anyone they don`t want.
You should contact the "Australian" embassy and they will tell you much more.
Theres a great story that happened many years ago with the singer "Frank Sinartra" who when on tour there one day went into a "Rant" with the news people and insulted them, so the "unions" refused to fuel his aircraft etc: until he said sorry, he would`nt and was stuck there for 3 weeks , in the end he and his people had a meeting with the then PM Bob Hawk (ex union boss) and was told the only way "Sinartra" could leave "Australia" is if he could walk on water unless he said sorry, and reminded him the only person that he "Hawk" and read about could do that was "God" 1 day later "Sinartra" said sorry , gave a few "Free" concerts and left the country and never returned for 28yrs..............what a story and its "true".Thats how the "Aussies" are , you mess with them , they will mess with you...............ofcourse this does`nt apply to you., I mention it because its such a great story. |

People above me have put in the immi website (Immigration) for you to check out the exact particulars.
But they are going to look at -
Do you have skills that Australia can use?
It is no use allowing in 1,000 people with X skill if we only need 10. That means 990 would by unemployed or need retraining in something else. Teaching is in demand so you may find it reasonable...
Another factor is if you or your family would be a burden to Australian society. Certain diseases or conditions will prevent or make it difficult to entry.
A criminal history could be difficult but it will depend on the charges and outcome. A traffic ticket or a jaywalking fine is unlikely to cause any issues. A minor shoplifting offence at 15 years of age some 20 or 30 years ago probably not, but be honest. A major crime like assault or rape probably not... |

Yes, entry is extremely hard as they want to keep out people from less economically developed countries.
But you will definately get in if you have a prestigious degree such as Medicine or Law. |
