If it's American/Canadian/Brit currency then $2000 is definitely fine, but considering you say after tax then I'm assuming you'll be earning that money here.
If you're not paying for rent and only using public transport $2000 AUS a month is easy (assuming you don't go stupidly overboard on personal items...).
For example, in my household there are 3 of us and every couple of months the total cost of gas is only $150ish. (Of course, this all vary's depending whether your house uses a lot of gas or if it runs more on electiricity). But it's not so expensive that what your earning would run out.
Public transport: you buy a multitrip ticket each week. It costs around $26 dollars per ticket and if you are travelling twice a day (morning and afternoon) for 5 working days it would last you a week.
You're easily covered. |

Could you ever!!! I wish I had 2 grand a month to live on. I exist on less than that and I run a car and pay rent!!!!
I live in Western Australia and I dont know how it compares with other states but yeah give it a go. You will be quite comfortable on that. |

It depends on your vices and how often you want to indulge in them.
You can live a simple life for about $300pw-no frills |

eeeerrmmm... we barely get by with $5000 month... but we have a MASSIVE home loan we're trying to pay off... Yeah you could easily live with $2000 a month though... as long as you have no debts and don't blow your money on something stupid like gambling. |

Marco If you try to live in Sydney or Melbourne with that amount of money the answer is NO!
But Queensland South Australia and Western Australia you could do it easily.
Its the cost of housing and rental that soaks up the money in those Major l areas like Sy]dney and melbourne. Melbourne is good to vist as is Sydney but working and living Forget it!
So if you arn't paying rent or mortgage ( not sure how you will live ( caravan?) then you could scrape by. |

Personally, not a hope! $2000 a week maybe, but then again everyone's circumstances are different I guess.
If what you're saying is correct, then your 500 bucks a week should be enough to live on, unless you plan on having a big night on the lash every weekend ;-) |

I wouldnt even considor using public transport unless i was in Sydney or Melbourne. You need a car to get anywhere in Aussie, you'll need it to get to work the shops, everything is so far apart it will amaze you. public transport is not as good as here in the uk. Its cheaper, but not as extensive.
I think you could get by on $2000 a month, i did and i was travelling!! |
