Do Australians eat a lot of beef?

Im doing an informative speech and I chose to to inform my class about Australia, and I read on a website that they eat a lot of beef. I just want to clarify this. Any help would be appreciated

I'm Australian, but asking do we eat 'a lot of beef' is a relative question. A lot as compared to what? Whatever we eat, I think it's normal since that's the way it's always been in my life, and I don't know how much they eat elsewhere. But, in the event that it helps, it is probably true to say that generally Australians eat a lot of red meat (not necessarily beef) in the sense that they eat red meat with a main meal at least 5 times a week. There are, of course exceptions to every rule. We do have vegetarians :-) And no, most people do not eat kangaroo.

Your first answer.... I dare him to come to Australia and say that out loud! He would be eating the footpath real quick lets say!

I eat lots of beef, most Aussies do!

A lot compared to whom?

Australian consumption of beef is falling compared to a couple of decades ago. Consumption of chicken and fish is rising.

I use to eat alot of beef, because it is reasonably price here, but have changed my ways and now eat beef only 3 times a week. The rest of the week in divided up in either fish and seafood and chicken with sometimes lamb. But what you can say in your speech is that the Australians love their Bar-B-ques and sausage Sizzles with onion on a piece of bread with either tomato or Bar_b_que sauce.

I believe we are the second highest consumers per capita of beef, after Argentina, but I could be wrong.

Compared to most countries it is fairly cheap, we export ALOT of it, eat a fair bit. But eat many many other things as well. We have one of the most varied diets around (as a whole).

yes - beef is very popular, but so is chicken, pork and lamb
Hervey Beef is the prime australian cut, most is exported to other countries

Compared to what country?

Everybody loves a good steak.. Who doesnt?

I personally like chicken and fish more than beef... I'm not sure about the rest of Australia

Maybe back in the day, say 40 years ago ore more people did a lot more, meat and three veg kinda meals, not so much these days with international influences and people don't have as much time to cook so get takeaway

KayKay
I'd say beef is a popular meat in Australia. Its good on a BBQ!

We also eat a lot of lamb.

Kevin
We do love a good BBQ, so we tend to eat a lot of steak and snags. That's not the only kind of food we throw on the barbie though.
I'm not sure how much is "lots" (are we comparing to other countries?), but I eat red meat maybe 4 times a week (with plenty of veggies too, can't forget the veggies).
We eat a lot of lamb too, roast dinners and such.

Dan
Well, you're asking the right person lol.

I loooooove beef!

Well, I won't say every Aussie does eat a lot of beef - it's that it is a main aspect of our cuisine just like how tomato is for Italians.

I think because it is well known around the world that we Australians have a lot of outdoor barbeques, (because of our excellent climate), the assumption is made that we must eat a lot of beef and sausages.

We do have a lot of barbeques but we also barbeque chicken, seafood and vegetables. It turns out that beef is the cheapest of the three meeats so I would say the answer to your question would be YES.

We eat a lot of beef compared to fish and chicken. And we probably eat more beef than other countries because australian beef is part of our culture and it is cheaper for us.
