Because I am one. I am a committed Republican and I am not happy that we don't have our own flag. Our flag has another country's flag, the UK. I think it should change.
Analogue TV sets are built to specifically work in either the northern or southern hemispheres due to the way the earths magnetic sphere affects the internal workings of a cathode ray tube. Digital (plasma/LCD) sets should have no problems. Australia uses the PAL transmission protocol.

No they don't and I speak from experience. You can get them converted though but it's probably easier and possibly cheaper to buy one here (In Australia).

Australian analog TV transmissions are PAL and perhaps newer British televisions are capable of receiving it. But Australia is about to go fully digital - in 2008 I think so a British analog set will not work. As for digital, it depends on the coding system used. Who knows -and I don't care.
Why would you want to anyway? Cost you a small fortune to send the set to Australia. You can get a used set here for less than AU$50, that is less than 25 British pounds. Leave your set in the UK, sell it to someone.
