Everyone needs a visa or electronic travel authority for Australia. As a Polish passport holder, you are eligible for an eVisitor electronic travel authority which is issued free of charge and is obtained online.
For all information and to apply, go to:

Flight time from LA to Sydney is around 14½ hours, longer if not direct. Add travel time from NYC and stopover time to that. Long flight!
Apartments in Sydney are expensive and difficult to get for short periods. If you're only staying for a month, why not stay in hostels which will give you the flexibility to get out of Sydney and see a bit more of the country (and save lots of money too). There is a huge network of great hostels throughout Australia and they're located in all of the best places. Hostel accommodation ranges from around AUD$25/day for a large dorm up to AUD$85 or so for a twin room. Hostels are a great place to meet fellow travellers and party/drinking companions and are a brilliant source of info on places to go and things to do.

If you don't want to rough it to that extent, self contained holiday apartments are available from around $150 per night though better deals can often be found.

Food prices will average out at much the same as in NYC, perhaps somewhat cheaper for good restaurants and a bit more expensive for fast food. Alcohol is more expensive here. |

You will need a visa.. see http://www.immi.gov.au
I'm not sure about NY but from Hawaii the flight is about 10hours. You wouldn't rent for a month, nor would you be able too. You can get nice hotel rooms for around $150 - $200 a night in the cities, you can usually get a 1 bedroom apartment for around the same. Try Medina or Quest in Sydney. In Melbourne I recommend Quest on Burke. For hotels try Accor.
I would allow between $50 and $100 a day for food depending on how you like to eat. If you make your own breakfast and have takeaway or pub meals $50 is plenty (try the Elephant & the Wheel-burrow in Melb) or if you go to restaurants it will of course cost more. In Melbourne you must see Dracula's and the Colonial Tram Car restaurant. In Sydney try Centre-point Tower for lunch or dinner and perhaps a show at Star City. A loaf of bread is little under $3, and your peanut butter, etc is about the same. A box of cereal $4, milk $3. I would make my own breakfasts. Utilities you don't pay at hotels.
Note - Our summer is December - February. Our winter's are not too cool so I wouldn't let that put you off. Melbourne will be a bit chilly at night but we don't get snow in the city areas. |

LUCKY!! Ive always wanted to go to Australia! I heard it was a 24 hour flight, I live in NY too. With a greencard you're good for a month. Any longer and you'd need the VISA. |

My boyfriend went there and he says you just need a passport for 90 days. I guess after that you would need a Visa.
So, no, a passport should do. |
