The beer and rum was flowing at the big brekky I went to straight after the dawn service this morning!!
lol - I was designated driver so no drinkies for me.

Young & Jacksons in the city is always over flowing with p!ss heads on Anzac day....I couldnt think of a better day when these aussies deserve a drink, while the rest of us say a "cheers....good on ya digger" and join in with them!!
Nothing disrespectful about that at all I dont think...

Most veterans do I remember my father-in-law always had a few with his mates after the dawn service for those that never returned he told me and it was the only day he ever spoke about the war.

Arbitraryk
LOL..........

Their intoxicated on most days, and given its a weekend......what hope is there that they are not?

Niagra Gash, getting nun
lolol they do where I come from....I'm not gonna stop being an Aussie today of all days, since when don't Aussies get pissed on ANZAC Day.
It's as Australian as the holden ute and bbq's

It doesn't mean you're showing disrespect to the fallen

Some do, some don't.
It's personal choice and the right to have a choice, which we enjoy today, is one of the many reasons we honour the men and women who served and still serve this country.

Traditionally Anzac Day, for those who marched at the Dawn Service started with a tote of rum and more rum at the Gunfire Breakfast which followed the service.
I don't know if that's still the case.

Edit: Being the grand-daughter of a World War One Lighthorseman, the daughter of a soldier from World War Two, daughter-in-law to a Rat of Tobruk and the wife of a career soldier I can say, with confidence, that the majority of Aussie diggers don't mind a cold beer on a hot day or a cold day for that matter.

Almost without exception lol. My Dad was in the Air Force and he always used to say he hoped to hell that Australia was never invaded on ANZAC day because there's not a sober soldier, sailor or airman in the country. Great Aussie tradition. Even I think so, and I never touch the stuff. But feel free...Cheers

N G
It's the most popular day at RSLs because everyone's there having A drink with their mates. Not getting shitfaced. That's not what the day is about, it's not St Patrick's day.

Hun, they get p*ssed as parrots, starting with the Dawn Service.

'Tis the Aussie way...keep drinking and don't let us down, hee hee xo

doctorintardis
I certainly hope not, for the sake of the ANZAC's.

Christie B
lol. no. most aussies don't get drunk on anzac day. it's a time to commemorate all those who fought in world war I at gallipoli, and most aussies spend more time visiting places that helps celebrate it. remember the day isnt about you. it's about those that risked their own lives for the country all those years ago

I cant speak for all Aussies but for me, i usually dont get too pissed on ANZAC day.
Mostly i either watch or attend the Sydney march and feel teary and proud and then the afternoon is spent doing the usual stuff.
I have had a few bourbons today but i dont really go out of my way to get hammered.

Rsl stands for Returned & Services League of Australia

A lot of men that i know were i live in Sydney get drunk, its there way of commemorating the Anzac's.

My mother, my father, my sister, my brother and I all went to a dawn service. Then after my father and his mates all went to the RSL to celebrate there life's. Getting drunk for my fathers like him having a drink with them in spirit.

Future Eagles Mummy!!
Now that is offensive

Mel
I don't know if I would say offensive, but it's definitely disrespectful to purposely go out and get sloshed. A beer or two in memory of our soldiers, sure. But getting pissed is extremely disrespectful.
