Yes people do . It's a traditional food for many indigenous people and it's gaining popularity throughout the wider community. It's true that it used to be regarded by non-indigenous Australians as only good for dog food, but I think that attitude is changing (btw I am vegetarian, so this is not an advocate spiel for eating roos). Kangaroos (and wallaroos) are harvested annually for meat and skin (and yes, we export - I've seen roo-meat sausages on the menu at an English pub). Here are a few links with some extra info on the industry. |

Yep they're yummy.
Believe it or not we also eat emu in some resteraunts.
Our coat of arms has a Kangaroo and an Emu on it.
So if you have a dish which features both of these it can be refered to as the coat of arms.
It don't taste like chicken, it's like really rich lean beef and a small piece is usually enough because it is so rich. |

Yes. You can even buy it at the supermarket. E.g. Kangaroo mince.
It used to be considered pet-food, but now you can get it lots of places for humans. It is supposed to have a very strong flavour and not be very tender. |

yeah, we do. It's not like a hardcore delicasy. And it's not like kangaroo sausages and mash potatoe 3 nights a week either!! In NT and QLD especially we have restaurants dedicated to kangaroo, emu, crocodile etc. However, not many of us have actually tried it, they say it tastes lyk chicken!! :P |
