Not if you are up the bush.Outback toilets are often of the long drop variety and do not flush at all.Tourists are advised to only use them at night when the flies are less active.

You can't tell, ALL of the toilets I saw were these Caroma brands that flushed straight down! Even in the crappy gas station bathrooms!
I couldn't find any old-style toilets to test. If anyone tells you differently, they're probably lying!
